I Googled the Prostivia RF machine and it looks different. Doctor Don Morris, of St. Petersburg, Fl, had virtually every machine produced on display. Hed upgraded as each one came along because each new generation got safer to the patient. He showed me each one and rattled off the dangers of each. The one he used on me was the latest and had many computer controlled interlocks to prevent damaging non-prostate tissue. Also, the wand was cooled to prevent damage to the urethra. The model he used had extendable temperature probes. The computer first made a resistance check to verify that the probes were in prostate tissue as opposed to other tissue. Then, the temperature probe feedback prevented the prostate from being over-cooked.
Dr. Morris said that even though the machine was mostly automatic that a good deal of artistry was required. He did three of these procedures a week and had obviously gotten them down pat. I spoke with other patients in the waiting room and they raved about their results as well.
What excited me about the procedure was the comparative risk/benefit. It had a much higher success rate and lower complication rate than the standard prostate removal operation. Also, the surgical solution required much higher doses of drugs with the associated risks there as well.
"The system" is supposed to be consistent with the restrictions on government that the Constitution imposes upon it. The milk of human kindness is supposed to help people like him, not forced labor from strangers.
My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer last year after a PSA screening at his 50 year old check up.
He had no symptoms, and would have likely died if it had not been caught when it was.
He had robotic prostatectomy last December. So far, his PSA has been undetectable. It was originally 19.
I haven't had insurance the last couple years but have continued to pay for annual blood tests. I used $45 as a rough estimate of how much extra my blood tests cost with the PSA [that probably varies from place to place.] I think I'm estimating on the high side.
As I said, I detest appearing to support Obama, but preventive measures do not always pay off. I suspect, though, that breast cancer tests [which have similar disconnects between costs and benefits] will eventually be covered by government insurance for political reasons while the PSA test will not -- for political reasons.
Men won't insist on their test. Women probably will -- and will get it.
Call me after you fixed what “is” into what is “supposed to be”. Until then, he paid into the “system” for 30 yrs and I have no problem with him getting that back.
Do an internet search with the question “is Medicare mandatory?” Before you spout off.
I never said the government has constitutional authority. But the government does’nt have constitutional authority for a lot of things.
And while you are on your high horse, why don’t you go slap some old people around?
Yes, we don’t want to have a war on women. LOL
Hope he has come out of it ok.
I’m 66 and I have what I have. You have inspired me to work another 30 years or so and pay for a different type of insurance. Unless you want to take care of me with your charitable contributions.
If I was a smart as you when I was 30, I may have done something different. Some of us get wiser with age. You just probably sprang from the womb spouting Milton Friedman.
are these post-treatment rates or without treatment. My Dr. said I have a prognosis for success some where around 95% because the cancer has not spread.
Thanx
thanx folks
There’s a huge difference between a man who is 50 who gets prostate cancer and one who is 80.
Also, the younger men tend to get the more aggressive cancer that will kill you.
Of course, if they catch it early, then there is a good outcome. When it gets out of the prostate, the rates are not as good.
I know. My 51 year old husband has the aggressive kind and it was just outside his prostate. Hopefully, the surgery got it all. It’s a waiting game. If not, then his life span will be greatly reduced!

Same to you! I hope you don’t have too many side effects.

I’m about as old as you yet am mourning the passing of our once great and self reliant country due to massive socialistic and unconstitutional ponzi schemes. And here, on a supposedly conservative site, people revel in those very schemes that have destroyed my country.
I’ll catch your response later as I have to go to work now.
