I would like to enlist the services of the Prayer Warriors for the grandson of a little girl who lived in my neighborhood when I was growing up. She's obviously not so little now, but is in need of your prayers.
Keegan James Dondlinger was born yesterday, November 23, 2012, but was due March 4, 2013, three days after my own grandson is due. He weighed 1.85 lbs, but he looks very well developed for being so young and so little.
He's been able to open his eyes, and to grasp his mother's finger.
Prayers will be said everyday for the little one.
Praying for little Keegan James.
Praying for him.
I tried to get a picture up, copied it to my computer and then put up on an internet site, but for some reason it wouldn't show up in the preview.
There is this information from his grandma:
His Mom is doing good. She got to come home yesterday. We went and saw him this afternoon. His parents have been visiting him 3 times a day. right now they are discouraging visitors except parents and 6 people they got to choose. He is so tiny but, he is a fighter. Last I heard the goal was for him to be home around his original due date of March 4 2013.
...
the visitors that are allowed do not get to touch or do anything except look at him through the incubator. His parents are allowed very limited contact 3 times a day when the Nurse is doing his care. Today when we were there his Mother got to touch his hands for a few moments and that's it.
And from his Dad:
she changed his diaper once and i've taken his temperature and helped hold him up while they changed his pads a couple times but that is about the extent of our touching. just needs to sleep and grow.
Grandma, Iris, is viewing this thread periodically and does appreciate the prayers. Dad may be viewing it too.
Can't get the image to show up, as an image, but here is the link:
Went and saw Keegan this morning. Watched as they did his morning care. He is an amazing tiny little sweetie.
She is reading the thread and tried to sign up to tell y'all thank you, but hasn't yet gotten her confirmation email.
So, Thank you from Keegan's Grandma, Iris.
And from me: Keep Up the Good Work!

If you could let the prayer group know Keegan isn't doing very well. He has an infection and had to go back on the ventilator.
So: BACK TO IT ... if you would please.
UPDATE: Keegan's doing a lot better, seems to be getting over his infection. They are talking about taking the breathing tube back out in the next day or two which means, since they already took the umbilical tubes out that hopefully Liz will get her Christmas wish early and get to start holding him. We both have tomorrow off from work so finger's crossed for a good day today to get the tube out tomorrow.
UPDATE 2:
oh forgot to mention he is back on his feedings too, but they called an hour ago and asked permission for a Lumbar (sp?) puncture to test his spinal fluid for infection. Sounds similar to a spinal tap which are really painful so hopefully they find what they need
Newest update :
OK so basically the spinal fluid test thing was because he has an infection, as I've mentioned before, and even though he looks to be getting better they are still trying to find where it is. That and all the other tests they did were clear so still no sign of it. Good news, he apparently spent the past 24 hours breathing on his own, the tube was just there to kick in when he forgot, but tonight they turned it back on to give him a break.
Screen got a little blurry there for a while when I was putting those updates together, and reading the 2nd and 3rd ones.
Latest Keegan update: he was up to his birth weight and off the vent. Now he dropped a little weight, his blood gasses were low and his ab muscles are still weak so, back on the vent.
They've got him in a papoose like affair. It keeps him from moving around to much, and burning calories he needs to grow. It also comforts him, being more womb like.
From his Dad : so we mentioned Keegan didn't have such a great night last night. He's back on the vent and lost some weight, but at least this dip isn't as big as the last one. he isn't sick his muscles are just not quite strong enough yet to breathe on his own long term and the "weight loss" was a whole 0.3 oz he is still doing well on his feedings and they may be moving him to just milk by Tuesday. The Doc said he wants to talk to us about some medication tonight that should help him along too.
Keegan update from his Mom: Well Keegan has officially hit the 2 lb mark and he is also now on the government's radar with a SS card... Today sorta feels like we should celebrate
And today's:
Keegan update from his Dad: Jared Dondlinger
Christmas came early. Liz is holding Keegan! Took a pic but it pretty dark and my phone wont let me upload. Aunt Julie will get a better one of me and him tomorrow afternoon. He also had a bath Wed. Night
Pardon me while my screen de-blurs. :)
Keegan Update: Well the bad news is he is back on the breathing tube. But it isn't anything necessarily bad, he just had an episode last night where he didn't feel like breathing. The doctor says this happens quite commonly in premies and nobody knows why. Good news is he is still going up on feedings, and everything else is going good. And they are taking his PIC line out today and are hoping if everything continues to look good, like it already is, that he can be off the tube again within 24 hours.
Keegan also got a visit in the NICU from a certain White Bearded (a real one) Red Suited Jolly Old Elf. The photo made an Old Man cry, just a little.
Keegan is all wrapped up and snug as a bug in a rug inside his Incubator . Currently he's sitting out a Blizzard howling outside of the NICU.
Stupid rollercoaster just took a nose dive. Long story short unless a blood clot keegan has dissolves on its own this weekend he could end up going to Omaha... And here's his Mom's version: Elizabeth Snyder: Keegan apparently has a build up of Spinal fluid in his skull and if if doesnt go down over the wkend they gonna have to get ppl for omaha to do something about it. which means he'd likely get moved to there
That was about noon 12/21 Then a couple of hours later:
Hospital just called and for now he is going to stay at Bryan. they are going to just keep a close eye on him and watch it.
Prayers please: Keegan Update: So he is up to 2lbs 14oz and is 15 inches long But the number most important right now is 29.3 Thats how many centimeters around his head is, 1 more cm than yesterday. We want this number to go down or stay the same not go up. Good news in this area is the doc at Bryan sent his info to UNMC for a second opinion and their pediatric neurosurgeon isn't on Christmas vacation. So at least if he has to go he will have a pediatric guy to goto not the adult one covering at Children's Update of the update: they did transfer him to the Med Center in Omaha this morning. Waiting to see if he needs surgery to put a shunt in or not.
UNMC is University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha. Bryan is a major hospital in Lincoln, 60 or so miles away. They all live in Lincoln.
Here is an earlier update that I had not been able to post, because I was using my tablet which I still have issues with.
Basically Keegan has water on the brain caused by a clot in his spinal fluid. Best case scenario it dissolves on its own in the next few days, but if necessary he could end up being sent to Children's of Omaha to have a temporary shunt put in to drain it. The pediatric neurosurgeon is on christmas vacation so he wont be back til Jan. 6th that plus Keegan being a baby so no fused skull means we can wait and see and hope it dissolves on its own.
Prayers for Keegan.
Please Ping your list. Keegan needs your help.
I just realized, Keegan has the same middle name as my grandson to be, who has about the same due date as Keegan’s full term date. It’s my father’s, and my son in law’s father’s middle name too.
Logan’s Prayer Warriors, PLEASE see #95 and pray for this precious baby!
