I need help from FR....

I live on the south shore of long Island & have extensive damage from storm. I finally got power back yesterday. I have been in touch with my insurance co. for the last 15 days and all I've got was one lie after another. They still have not even assigned an adjuster for my claim and no inspector....does anyone know any agency I can call to report this or what my legal action are?.....

Take photos of your damage! Lots of photos! They will come in real handy in any insurance problems!

Wrong. Bad advice.

I worked in the industry. Insurance companies are threatened with lawsuits by the hundreds every day. Their reply will always be have a nice day. “Let us know the name of your lawyer when you get one”.

Insurance company management know that lawsuits take years to settle and even if they have to pay, the money they earn over the years for not paying the claim makes up for any payout made early in the claim.

Want my advice? Get the hell out of blue states. We need your vote and conservatism in red states. After you get your insurance taken care of, you should uproot and replant in freedom loving soil.

Go online. Find the board of directors of your insurance company. Look up their home phone numbers on search engines like zabasearch. Get the VP of marketing name and phone number, Call his office first. List out the board members and their phone numbers that you will begin to call at 2:00am local time, specifically mention that you will state that you spoke to his office and he refused to help you. Then follow through. I promise you will have an adjuster out in no time.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this actually happens.

One or more companies may go bankrupt. Could hurricane Sandy do to the insurance industry, what the collapse of the subprime market did for big banking firms?

In any case, I would expect several insurance companies — even if they manage to pay off the Sandy claims in NY and NJ — to afterwards cease writing policies in both those states altogether...

In the case of those suffering from Sandy related damages, that IS the place where non-union help was rejected. The harsh reality is that FReepers are in the same nasty quandery that faced Germany’s Jews before WW II. They knew their government was going seriously bad, but did not leave.

New York has been afflicted with a preference for being ruled ever since many either went to Canada or sat out the Revolutionary War. Once a subject, always a subject.

Culture is determinative, and the culture of the Big Sh*ty means that in case of disaster, the strongest tribe wins - the unions in this case. Let alone, the Big Sh*tyPersons will cause the return of warlords.

When faced with impending socialism, flight is a viable option. DaCoyote’s post implied just that, IMHO.

Contact a large newspaper to see if they will use you as an example of problems people are having with insurance claims. If successful, this should yield results.

Don’t be surprised to learn that a contractor won’t be available for 6 months or more.

And lest we forget, between onerous permitting requirements for building, as well as the mandates for union workers... might be even more than 6 months.

If you have a mortgage and its with a local bank and your payments are up to date, try telling your bank the trouble your having and see if they have any ideas or can offer assistance as an intermediary with the insurance outfit.

a bank holding a mortgage that is up to date in this present market has a fiduciary interest in your situation NOT becoming another foreclosure due to your expenses for alternate living while you wait for your insurer to act on your claim

I’m not saying that is your situation, but it would not hurt to let your bank thank it might be if doing so would get them to mediate for you with your insurer.
