My dad was watching this old movie when I was a young girl, and I complained about his selection. He made me watch the movie. It’s been an important movie for me since then.

Thank you for the websites. Sgt. York is still one of my favorite movies. Gary Cooper did a superb job, and he too is one of my favorite actors.

I had never seen picture of the real Alvin York, he was a handsome man.

Now, I will return to the websites and enjoy the evening.

One of the memorable moments of my life was meeting Colonel Gerald York, Alvin’s grandson, while serving in Korea.

TRUE STORY ABOUT SGT. YORK

The owner of the General Store in Pall Mall told me the following story:

Many years after WWI, an elderly Sgt. York was sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch of the general store with the store owner’s grandmother. He would often visit the store and with his friend.

One day a stranger pulled up in a car and asked where Sgt. York lived. He explained that Sgt. York was his greatest heroes and he had read everything he could about him. Without identifying himself, Sgt.York told him where the house was and pointed the way.

Then the man asked, “Do you think he would mind if I took a picture of his house?”

Sgt. York replied, “Oh, I don’t think he’d mind at all. Take all the pictures you want. take a look around as long as you don’t take anything.”

After the very happy and excited man left, the old woman asked him, “Why didn’t you tell that man who you were?”

Sgt. York replied, “I just didn’t want to spoil a nice conversation.”
