A lot of people are responding to my post here, at Free Republic, and on Facebook. Most disagree with my thesis laid out in Part I but here we go with Part II:
Colorado: Obama lost 3.9% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 4.8% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Colorado by a smaller margin (51.2% to 46.5%) than in '08 (53.7% to 44.7%).
Delaware: Obama lost 5.1% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 8.6% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Delaware by a smaller margin (58.6% to 40.0%) than in '08 (61.9% to 36.9%).
Illinois: Obama lost 14.7% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 2.9% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Illinois by a smaller margin (57.3% to 41.1%) than in '08 (61.9% to 36.8%).
Indiana: Obama lost 17.0% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 5.0% more votes than McCain. This allowed Romney to take Indiana (54.3% to 43.8%) whereas Obama won it in '08 (50.0% to 49.0%).
Iowa: Obama lost 14.7% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 2.9% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Iowa by a smaller margin (52.1% to 46.5%) than in '08 (54.2% to 44.6%).
Michigan (with 96.5% reporting at this writing): Obama lost 13.3% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 2.4% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Michigan by a smaller margin (53.8% to 45.3%) than in '08 (57.4% to 41.0%).
Missouri: Obama lost 15.7% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 2.4% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Illinois by a smaller margin (53.9% to 44.3%) than in '08 (49.4% to 49.3%).
Nevada: Obama lost 0.9% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 12.0% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Nevada by a smaller margin (52.3% to 45.7%) than in '08 (55.1% to 42.7%).
Virginia: Obama lost 0.9% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 12.0% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Virginia by a smaller margin (50.8% to 47.8%) than in '08 (52.7% to 46.4%).
Wisconsin: Obama lost 3.8% of his 2008 voters while Romney got 11.6% more votes than McCain, which means Obama won Virginia by a smaller margin (52.8% to 46.1%) than in '08 (56.3% to 42.4%).
I realize these figures of of little comfort since Obama won all these states except Indiana anyway, and got their electoral votes. But I still think it's important to know that even in these blue or swing states Obama lost votes while Romney gained. There's no reason, in my opinion, why four years from now when the next Democrat candidate is someone other than Obama, the Republican candidate cannot narrow the gap even more and -- just like Indiana -- even take that state.
In all the red states, with the stange exception of Louisiana and North Carolina, Obama lost huge percentages of votes. Romney gained votes in some of those states, but, inexplicably, lost votes in others. Among the latter are Alaska, Arizona, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. If you combine the votes Romney gained in the red states and added them to the votes he lost, it's probably a wash -- and I'll admit that is a problem.
But you might be asking, if Romney got more votes in 27 states than McCain did, then how did he end up losing 2.0 million votes nationwide? The answer lies mainly in three states: California, New York, and New Jersey. In California alone, Romney received an astounding 1.36 million fewer votes than McCain in 2008. Another 760 thousand Republican votes were lost in New York and New Jersey. (In these three states, Obama lost 3.9 million votes, so for some reason there was a huge decrease of voter turnout there.). And there you are: The 2 million missing Republican votes.
Yes, the Republicans lost. Despite all his dismal failures, Obama and his sycophantic media machine waged a successful slash-and-burn campaign. Too many protesting conservatives, liberatarians, and "constitutionalists" decided to stay home or vote third party, otherwise this election could very easily had tilted the other way. They need to get over themselves and get back.
This isn't over. I think we're still in good shape if people just freaking go to the polls next time! We also need to seriously outreach more to blacks, Hispanics, etc. It sucks because one shouldn't have to pander to perceived "victim" groups, but that's the reality of politics. Am I being Pollyanna-ish? Probably. But I'm also trying to be realistic.
Onward.
Nice analysis. Good work.
Those are really cool statistics and stuff but losing constantly by different margins is still losing constantly.
Let me guess. The GOP got more votes this time everywhere but Fla, Ohio, Va.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.
We have hit that tipping point. Immorality, deviancy are the normal. The give me mentality is generational now. There is no going back. This was our moment to push back the tides of the takers.
Good luck to survive I wish you well. As for me, I’ll be investing in food and precious metals, like gold and lead.
The Death of Heroism
The firefight lasted seven hours. The Obama Administration had to do the math, calculating the worth of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Seals Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, and Information Officer Sean Smith against the possibility of losing votes in Ohio. Ohio won. And the President won Ohio. There is no public outcry. President Obama correctly realized that America had tipped, and Heroism ran a distant second to pop culture.
The other heroes, those that put their life savings, time and lives into building businesses and creating wealth, have similarly met an untimely death. The American people could not have been clearer. From New Hampshire to California, through the industrial heartland of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, American Exceptionalism, Rugged Individualism, Entrepreneurship and Citizenship have finally been put to rest. The Welfare State is now permanent. The rejected model of save and invest has given way to the contemporary model of tax, borrow and spend. We are all Californians now, on our way to Greece. This will not end well.
It is hard to see a future for Conservatism. It does not exist in Europe, or California. It is no longer welcome in America. The Republican Party will have to take a good look in the mirror and decide what, if any, future it has. For that I make this declaration: We will not settle in to become the tax collectors for an Obamanation.

Where did you address the fraud’s the voter fraud? KEEP IT HONEST. He is a POS Anti-American and don’t know any American who voted for him because they don’t HATE our country!
And whatever happened to “300,000 less Rats in those Ohio counties”? I guess they didn’t actually have to “be” there to vote.
This is just left wing (media) propaganda. No, we do not have to go left. In fact, we've gone too far left. we keep running RINOs. That's why we LOSE. No one wants a RINO. Tax payers need someone to speak for them, and these' no one who'll do it.
What we need to do is go after tax payers BIG. They've been used as slaves for the democrat base for way too long. Go BIG with tax cuts and social spending reductions for the working class, and people will come from every corner of the country to vote for our guy.
No man should be used as another mans slave. It's time the democrat base paid it's own bills like the rest of us.
The voter fraud question is a valid one. Were there anecdotal instances of Democrat voter fraud around the country Tuesday? Almost definitely. But I can’t believe it was that rampant for the following reason: Obama himself lost nearly 8.5 million votes. If Democrat voter fraud was so widespread, I can’t believe that number would’ve been that high. That’s just my educated guess.
YOU ARE A RETARD!! Don't insult us with 'going to the polls' and use that as an excuse for the bony @ss and wideload being in OUR house - he belongs in the jail house!
There are other indicators of an ongoing rightward trend. We defeated 2 pro union constitutional amendments and a green energy mandate amendment in Michigan as well.
I gotta admit that I take perverse pleasure in the fact that Debbie Stabenow got more votes in Michigan than Obama.
ONLY if it's to explain conservative principles to them. All they know about us is what the liberal media and democrat politicians tell them. We need to set a good example, and ask them to follow us.
I'm not going to pander or reinforce their perceived victim hood. It would be a lie. The democrat brainwashing - that only a democrat politician can save them from themselves - is the only thing holding them back.
I think conservative groups should start running TV commercials right now that explain what conservatism is. Otherwise, with the media being 80% liberal, how will voters ever know the truth?
Colorado: '2012 (51.2% to 46.5%) than in 2008 (53.7% to 44.7%).
If what you're saying is that the past 4 years, which should be enough to convince 10% of voters to switch, against a strong candidate which should have been enough to switch another 5% ...
... if you're saying this is good news, you are unaware of how demographics have tipped the scale in western cultures. Mitt ran a campaign honest enough if not perfect, to transmit the message. Obama also transmitted his message.
Had Mitt won by 4% and taken fewer than 318 EVs, it would still be an indictment of the electorate, as ignorant. Ignorant of the Constitution, and ignorant of economics, and greedy. What a joke that the producers are considered greedy.
There is no explanation for what just happened other than that Americans had a clear choice, had plenty of opportunity to recognize that Obama is a liar and they voted for him anyway. It's an irrational, identity based tribal electorate now.
That's the majority. It wasn't supposed to happen for another 10 years, but it happened now because O hypnotized white women. In 10 years, women may open their eyes, but at that point, the gap will have been covered by demographics, and the left won't need them.
Every single statistic you can throw it me confirms this. After the past 4 years, the record that shouldn't have even needed to be explained by Romney or anyone else, for an opposition party to lose having run a strong candidate with a believable, rational, positive message, was proof that it's over.
The minor things Mitt isn't perfect at would only have bought a few more years. Nobody voted for Obama out of ideas, they voted identity and brand name and ignorance. They shot themselves ... and they'll never know it.
Joe Arpio was reelected by double digits. Roy Moore is the chief justice of the Alabama supreme courts. At least two state legislatures went GOP majority for the first time in decades.
The democrats are happily pointing to the black clouds to keep us from seeing the silver linings.
We win a battle every now and then but we have been losing steadily since maybe Hoover. Reagan was one of those battles I mentioned, Walker in Wisconsin is another example...but our culture continues its decline at rapidly increasing rates. Our country is circling the drain. The coming financial collapse may provide us with an opportunity, but it won’t be for the timid.
Where did I ASK you IF there was fraud? Stop w/the BS. NO ONE needs YOU to tell them that!! I asked where DID YOU ADDRESS IT? NO WHERE!! Why didn't you just BE HONEST and say you didn't!
But I cant believe it was that rampant for the following reason: Obama himself lost nearly 8.5 million votes.
I don't give a crap what you believe he lost 8 million BLACK votes and those that WOKE UP to the con man's antics!!
Did you consider in '08 his numbers were high because of voter fraud? We KNOWN there was! So you are already going against false numbers!!
I cant believe that number wouldve been that high.
NO ONE cares what you believe. I believe you are a fake!
Thats just my educated guess.
No one gets a degree in 'guessing'!
You are ERIC the BLUE with no facts - just guessing.
