The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has placed a rush order of two million meals to be delivered to Floyd Bennett New York Harbor Parks, and Lakehurst New Jersey.
The solicitation was placed at 2:30 pm EST on 2 November 2012, with a response time of no later than 8 pm on the same day.
The solicitation was amended less than four hours later for providers to provide a quote of four million meals, preferably of the self-heating
variety.
The request is for self-heating Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) with a 13-month shelf life preferred, and delivered wrapped and palletized by 4:30 PM local time on Monday, 5 November 2012.
One half will be shipped to Floyd Bennett New York Harbor Parks and that will be due on 6 Nov 2012, the other one million will ship to Lakehurst New Jersey and be due the following day.
If there are any NY or NJ freepers, please add comments about the location of this MRE disbursement.
Vote and get an MRE. Damn FEMA had noting planned, staged or ready to roll yet Obama was praising them to the hilt.
Will there be an implicit message to vote for Obama if you want to eat?
He’s already got NY and NJ locked up....so likely won’t matter...would be interesting to see if anyone says that, however...
Duz ya wantz duh Chikin, o’ duh fish?
I expect the mobile military polling stations will be part of the food distribution convoys.
Actually, for Staten Island, they may not be. Staten Island voted for McCain in 2008.
“MONDAY, AUGUST 29
Overnight and Morning
More than 4,000 National Guardsmen are mobilizing in Memphis to help police New Orleans streets.
The citys director of homeland security said tonight that officials hope Katrina gets through the region Monday with several hours of daylight left so they can get up in the air and assess the damage.
We are going to have very limited communication, Terry Ebbert said. The first order of business will be life-saving operations. That may mean relocating thousands of people in the Superdome once power goes out and temperatures start to rise above 100 degrees, he said
At 3:00 AM the National Hurricane Center reported Katrian three hours from landfall with winds of 150 MPH.
Aircraft in position to help assess the damage and carry out rescues:
Aircraft are positioned from Hammond to the Texas border ready to fly behind the storm to check damage after it passes over New Orleans, said Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau, head of the Louisiana National Guard.
Search and rescue operations are being coordinated by the Guard with the state Wildlife and Fisheries Department and Coast Guard poised to help search for survivors stranded by the storm. Guardsmen are also deployed at the Jackson Barracks ready to head into the city using high-water vehicles, Landreneau said.
Director Ebbert said rescue priorities would be given to those stranded in their homes and those hospitalized. If the storm passes by 2 p.m., Ebbert said, we have a few hours to get these people out before dark. It may involve some airlifts.
Hurricane Katrina strikes New Orleans at 8:00 AM with winds at 150 MPH and a storm surge of 18 feet.
As the Category 4 surged ashore just east of New Orleans on Monday, FEMA had medical teams, rescue squads and groups prepared to supply food and water poised in a semicircle around the city...”

But the levees didn’t hold. It was Bush’s fault, although IIRC Hillary Clinton flew in, huddled up with Kathleen Blanco on a teleconference with the DNC, and stood federal troop aid AND LOGISTICS expertise down. W agreed to pick up the tab for everything, and everything is now history. Remember? Hillary was in on that, too.

“Hours after the hurricane hit Aug. 29, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced a plan to send 500 commercial buses into New Orleans to rescue thousands of people left stranded on highways, overpasses and in shelters, hospitals and homes.
On the day of the storm, or perhaps the day after, FEMA turned down the states suggestion to use school buses because they are not air conditioned, Blanco said Friday in an interview.” [Baton Rouge Advocate, 9/18/05]
I see that FEMA got right on this, only about 72 hrs late and a week after some sort of disaster was predicted.
This is what we have feral gubmint involvement for.
FEMA just ordering food now?? FEMA , no food, no water, no gas.... Only photo ops!
No Big Gulp for you!
The one that got me that I won’t ever forget is the person responsible for the marathon saying that those were his generators, they paid for them and they will be used for the marathon.
It only became an emergency when it became a public relations emergency for them, then they jerk the chains of their suppliers to look like they’re on top of it. Typical bureaucrats.
FEMA just a little behind the curve here.
I had the lasagna.
“You’re doing a heckuva job, Fugate.”
So where did all this go then? Where is it?
“FEMA Requests Information on the Availability of 140 Million Packets of Food, Blankets, and Body Bags
Jan 24, 2011
UPDATE: The Department of Homeland Security is also looking for a vendor that can supply various fuels in support of disaster relief.
DHS specifically cites the states that it will be needed in. North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida. Thats right, the Gulf of Mexico.
FEMA is also looking for Hydration Supplies for a disaster in the New Madrid Fault System just as they are looking for food, blankets, and underwater body bags.”
Now, we’ll have another Mountain House shortage?
Now, three/four/five days after the storm -- a storm that everyone knew would leave up to ten million people without electricity -- FEMA calls for two millions MREs.
That's the difference between private enterprise and government "service."
