SAMANTHA PAWLUCY, the Port Richmond teen embroiled in a high school controversy over her T-shirt choice, will no longer attend Charles Carroll High School, her attorney and her father confirmed Wednesday.
"She's totally uncomfortable. She doesn't want to go back there," said Richard Pawlucy, the student's father. He and his wife, Kristine, also pulled their two other daughters from the school.
Samantha wore a pink Romney/Ryan T-shirt to Carroll High on "Dress Down Day" nearly two weeks ago. Her geometry teacher, Lynette Gaymon, asked her to leave the class and wondered why she was wearing a Republican top at a "Democratic" school, according to the student.
The Pawlucys want to enroll the girls at "anything that's not associated with the School District of Philadelphia," Richard Pawlucy said.
Kristine Pawlucy told Larry Mendte on his WWIQ-FM (106.9) show that she felt "betrayed" by, among others, district superintendent William R. Hite and Mayor Nutter.
Richard Pawlucy said his ideal destination for his kids is a charter school.
That might be a tall order. The new school year is already a month old and most charters accept students through a lottery system.
State Rep. John Taylor, who counts the Pawlucys as constituents, is acting as an intermediary with the district and helping the family land a school. It's "a very difficult process for anyone," he said.
Taylor said he spoke Wednesday afternoon with Hite, who was "perfectly willing to cooperate."
Hite told Taylor the family can get him a list of the public schools they'd consider, the state rep said.
"It sounds great, but we were already burned once by Dr. Hite," Richard Pawlucy said. "I don't think we want that."
A disciplinary hearing is scheduled this week for Gaymon, school district spokesman Fernando Gallard said.
Fire a teacher? Are you kidding they are part of the ruling class. You can’t fire those elitists who drag home $100K for 6 mos work.
The kid is likely getting a better education at home.

Pennsylvania has arguably the worst homeschooling statutes in the United States. (Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Mississippi are also in the running.)

As more Republicans and Christians pull their children out of these marxist indoctrination centers, public schools are becoming nothing more than another wealth redistribution scheme where conservatives pay for the education of both their own children and liberals’. When my youngest was born, I swore that the only time he would set foot in a public school would be if he had to go there to vote.
Yes, I've been in correspondence with some people in PA. They (and you) have my sympathy! I've lived in Oklahoma and North Carolina.
My Non-Public School compliance this year required me to go to the state's website, verify my address, and check off the number of compulsory-school-age children I'm educating, by age and sex. If the state ever calls or comes to the door, I can arrange to meet them at a neutral location and show them that I possess standardized test results, attendance charts, and vaccination records. (The state is not allowed to have an opinion on any of those items, only verify their existence.)
I hope the family in the article will find an educational arrangement that works for them!
You don’t even have to notify the district to homeschool in NJ. It’s recommended that you notify the school district if you’re pulling your kid out, however.
A state senator is trying to make it very difficult, but the legislature doesn’t seem interested.

The family’s first priority, fo course, is to secure an
education/school for their kids. The next step is a due
process hearing. Their child was denied access to a Free
Appropriate Public Education as required by law. If I werethem, I would contact Alliance Defense Fund or Landmark
Legal Foundation. The remedy (money) should provide enough
for private education thereafter.
Probably New York — they have very restrictive laws. I think there are testing requirements, yearly evaluations, submission of all lesson plans, etc.
Before we moved to PA we were in Mass. and it was surprisingly easy to homeschool there ... just a notification and maybe a few standardized tests from time to time.

Well, that makes perfect sense (fox/henhouse, etc).
NY is pretty bad.
It does make sense as the action of a Democrat machine that believes that it is above the law and can force Republicans into submission and hiding.
Liberals are the narrow minded haters... this is just one more example.
I was not aware of that about home schools in Pennsylvania.
