The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services reported that more than $100 million in welfare benefits were issued to illegal alien parents for their native-born children in June and July alone, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
The $100 million consists of nearly $40 million in CalWORKs (welfare) and $70 million in food stamps — representing 22% of all CalWORKs and food stamp issuances in the County. At this rate, the projected annual cost is more than $625 million.
“With the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year,” said Antonovich. “These costs do not include the hundreds of millions of dollars for education.”

The proponents of the New Atzlan —once led by the current mayor of LA—now believe that they will be able to give birth to a new political state by giving birth. The demographics of illegal immigration and anchor babies will eventually make a take-over of the Southwest inevitable.
Just think once these benefits start drying up and there is nothing more the state can give. The illegals will again have more kids than money. These freebies cannot last forever. How many millions is Calif’s dream act costing the state ?
You are forgetting the trial balloon already floated by the Administration about the Feds assisting states with the financial burdern of their past profligacy.
After all, why shouldn’t Texas, Mississippi, and Ohio who have their financial house in order help out poor bankrupt California? And Michigan? And New York?

Well, now it does. We can’t pay for all your life losers who migrate to our state for the weather and welfare benefits. We certainly can’t pay for the results of your abrogating the border.

Sorry but you’re wrong about Texas at least. Most of our state has tried to stem the tide by restricting illegals from obtaining welfare benefits instead of opening the gates like the California legislature.
Our Governor has been in the forefront of trying to get the Feds to police our borders for illegals and the drug cartels and has done what he can with Texas law enforcement resources like the Texas Rangers and county sheriffs.
I’d say the Californians who screamed their heads off weren’t very convincing to the majority who kept voting for the liberal legislators and city officials who welcomed the illegals with open arms.
Californians voted overwhelmingly to pass Prop 187, which would have denied welfare benefits to illegals and their children, but it was overturned by the courts.
Don't blame the citizens. They tried to do the right thing.
As for our illustrious Governor Rick Perry, he did little to nothing to influence our legislature to pass (or even bring to the floor) any number of strong anti-illegal immigration bills in the last (and previous) legislative session. Neither did his RINO Lt. Governor, David Dewhurst. All of those bills were allowed to die behind closed doors - intentionally KILLED by their henchman, Joe Straus.
Is this guy the only county supervisor in the country who does this? I always seem to read a similar headline yearly from the same county.
If it is, how is it the LA mayor hasn’t got rid of him yet?

Mike is a good friend of mine and for the life of me I can’t understand why he keeps beating his had against a wall when he is the lone Republian and conservative on the board!
At 72 he’s running again to be the lone sane person on the board!!!!
The 1994 Prop 187 was the high water mark of conservatism in California, However the voters then turned leftward and by 1999 the Democratic Governor Gray Davis stopped all appeals and got away with it. You can’t be satisfied with an argument that cites a law that foundered in a liberal due to a reversal of leadership to the Democrats.
In contrast, Since 1995 the following states have had similar ballot initiatives or laws passed: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma and Texas
You can’t deny that the Californians have voted left since the late 90s and let the liberal legislature run amuck, leading to actual bankruptcies of municipalities and unsustainable programs such as the high speed rail project and the restraint of development by the ecology lobby.
Meanwhile, Texas does what it can, even challenging the EPA to a showdown on energy development.
