Where I grew up our local butcher had a much earthier and to-the-point definition of a capon.

It’s all the Oprah and candy corn that makes them blow up tio Rosie O’Donnel proportions.
Some years ago, I purchased a capon at a supermarket. Since few of these are sold, the cashier didn't know what it was. I explained that a capon is to a rooster what a steer is to a bull. She laughed her head off.
