The average IQ score of a student in whatever major.

I believe the IQ methodology assigns 100 as the average IQ in the middle of the bell curve.

Actual testing, IIRC, puts it at about 98.

If the average IQ of a math major is about 111, per this article, and 150 is in the top 1% by definition, then one has to assume that lots and lots of math majors with IQs around 100 are choosing to be math majors.

I seriously doubt that.

Yup, I’d hate to work with a bunch of engineers with an IQ as low as this chart claims.

Smartest people I knew in college were Philosophy majors. They were even smart enough to know that the degree would be worth squat in the job market.

“I’ll wager the average Freeper is smarter than most of these people... I have never found a brighter bunch than the freeps.”

Boy you aint a kiddin. Post something here with a flaw, (I dare you) doesn’t matter if it is a fact or just a simple misspelling, you will be called out on it in about 3 seconds. The lame stream media should use this as kind of a spell-fact-check thingie.

In a previous life, I was a Librarian at a women's college which specialized in Education degrees.

On the whole, the young ladies were painfully stupid. And the staff were almost entirely lesbian. Go figure.

I’m way above this curve. 139-142, depending on the test. I’ve been as high as 160, but I consider that an outlier.

I think these scores are a bit skewed, especially when I see the scores for engineering and IT. I think a big part of the problem is that this is intended majors for people that take the test before entering college. If you read through the rest of the article, it says that 50% of the test takers will not complete a degree, and it’s safe to assume that they will have lower average scores than those that graduate.

I knew I was going undershoot this ....

In the age of computers I see less actual print media and more Google.

I don’t think I’ve seen a real librarian since I was kid.... a long time ago.

This is a poorly planned attack on education because Interdisciplinary Studies the highest on there questionable list is a common major for those going into teaching.

If I could find a history book published by a non-Marxist before 1930, I think I’d buy it. Probably not nearly PC

Yup, you are likely right. I remember that in college the hardest classes I attended would whittle down to about 30% after a few weeks.

The more IQ tests a very smart person takes the better their score gets. You just figure out the types of questions after a while. A really smart guy ponders the questions they could not answer until they finally get it...the next time, they are ready :-)

Which ones, those in the liberal arts?

There’s a pretty strong bias at FR that humanities majors are stupid and that they only study the humanities because they couldn’t cut it in the hard sciences.

Physics and philosophy majors have both tended to lead in this area over time. (I remember a retired physics professor at a very elite science and engineering school confessing to me once that the engineering faculty always seemed a bit slow to him.)

I didn't see race mentioned in the post. You have to click the article to see their table.

Group IQ

Asian/Pacific Islander 108.1
White 106.2
Native American/Alaskan native 100.3
Mexican 96.4
Other Hispanic 96.4
Puerto Rican 95.9
Black 92.4

This is the real "3rd Rail" of some of these articles, because some people think they are akin to racism. See book: "The Bell Curve." Even one of the co-authors of that book (who has a PhD) said it was the "unmentionable" data.

I have no problem knowing your average Asian has a higher IQ than the average of someone of European background. I also am not Jewish, and Jews have by far the highest average IQ of any nation or people. God gives each one of us gifts. It is how we use them that matter.

I can show you the smartest atheist in the room who is still lacking in wisdom.

Still, the IQ scores are gasoline on the fire to some liberals, because the cannot accept the fact that there is a correlation between success and IQ.

Many librarians work for corporations, they help ensure that old information, that could be lost forever because they are stored on old media formats, floppy discs or tapes, are transferred to new media formats, DVD’s.

I take it only bookish types have an interest in library science.

Uh-oh. Now you've done it.
