No, it's not an early Halloween prank. The Associated Press is reporting that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a new "public health campaign" and has "urged citizens to prepare for a zombie apocalypse."
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have gotten into the act as well and have launched a series of seminars and social media campaigns on zombie attack survival.
A CDC pamphlet, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse" gives a history of zombies and checklists of all the survival items that citizens should have in stock in case of a zombie attack, is presently available online here.
What's gotten into DHS, FEMA and the CDC? Obviously, federal government officials do not recognize the existence of zombies, at least not officially, but DHS, FEMA and CDC are apparently using the zombie-angle as a lame marketing ploy.
According to the Associated Press, our disaster response agencies are under the impression that if citizens are "prepared for a zombie attack, the same preparations will help during a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake or terrorist attack;" and undoubtedly, the approaching of the Halloween holiday and the recent public infatuation with all things undead, more than likely played a role in inspiring our government to push the marketing ploy.

Always remember; a zombie is a brain dead consuming machine, it cares about nothing but it’s own desires and wants.
A zombie will continue to devour every thing in it’s path until there is nothing left to consume.
A zombie produces nothing; a zombie contributes nothing to society, only takes, consumes and destroys.
Sounds an awful lot like a liberal, progressive, or a modern Democrat doesn’t it.

Bet the real translation of zombie attack is 'martial law curfew'.
Look at the percentage of the population on antidepressants.
Now imagine some disaster cuts off the supply of those drugs to millions of people.

With none of that and no hollow points or machetes, the government wants the zombies to win. Never trust the government.
Has anybody ever seen a zombie movie where a shotgun was not the most important thing you need in a zombie attack? It has to be one of the Zombie survival rules.
If they declare a martial law curfew I guess I’ll be free to shoot zombies on my property at will.
