Advice and help would be appreciated to get rid of a little nagging problem I've had with Free Republic.
For some reason, whenever I initially open the Free Republic website, I get the list of articles posted on Aug. 21, 2012. The right-hand column of articles is up to date, however. I've hit refresh and looked through my settings, and everything seems fine there - although I know that there could be dozens, maybe hundreds of settings I'm unaware of.
In any case, I'm exceptionally tired of seeing those same articles about the senatorial candidate from Missouri filling my screen with the same stories over and over.
When I go to an article in the right-hand column and then move back to the main page (almost always "news and activism"), voila! I get the latest articles.
Anyhow, if someone out there can tell me a way around this very, very small problem, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
Seriously though, copy the URL that you are landing on and paste it here.
Hold the shift key and click on the refresh button in your browser.

Hey, it’s early in the morning here in Alaska, and I’m still working on my first cup of coffee. :)
Try reading it again every day. Leave different posts than the day before, do anything you can to get banned, try thoughtful posts, try trolling posts. Try putting up new threads.
One day you will wake up and it will be Aug. 22.
I would suspect the link you are using to open FR.
Here’s a test. Unplug your internet from your computer, or unplug your wireless modem, then hit your link and see what you get. Refresh it a few times and see if it changes. I think you might have a very slow connection or a very slow computer.
Browser?
Are you logged in?
Don't drive angry!
Thanks for directing my attention to my URL. Sure enough, after the link you suggested (which is already being used), there is are additional letters and symbols.... ?more=243... (I can’t recall the numbers).
So somehow my IE has been stuck on that specific page... when I tried to erase those numbers, the computer kept bringing me back to it... so now I’m going to clear my history and that should do it.
Appreciate the time... be well.
Damn near killed 'er!
Try cleaning out your browser cache
Change that date setting from August 21, 2012 to February 2, 2012 (Groundhog Day) and you’ll have a better day to repeatedly see over and over and over.
Just kidding but one of these days I’m going to have to spend some time figuring out how to modify my settings to see if I could “optimize” them for the way I use FR.
Too late!
You started this thread and now everyone is going to gangpile accordingly! :) ;)
What the heck does that mean
The problem was the page saved in the IE "quick selection" box... it saved the specific page for that day, not the more general page that updates itself.
Be well wherever you are, and for God's sake, keep driving your cars and running the AC, we NEED the global warming in the Alaskan Bush. :)
