With his joke today that “No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate,” Mitt Romney moved down to the lowest rung of the Republican Party – the racist demagogues who know better.

I don’t forgive poor, isolated, ignorant whites their racism, but you can understand some of the cultural programming that embedded it. Romney knows Obama was born here. And he also knows exactly what he’s doing with his birth certificate joke: he’s telling the bedrock Republican reactionary base to pay no attention to that Todd Akin mess, Romney will cater to their basest political desires.
We know Romney knows better, because his son Matt made the same joke, and had to apologize (if Tweeting “My bad” is an apology.) This time, he didn’t have one of his sons, or even Paul Ryan act as surrogate: Romney himself is willing to wade into the muck himself.
If you had any doubts about the racial animus behind Romney’s lying welfare ads – which polls show conservative whites view through a racial lens, thanks to Ronald Reagan painting “welfare queens” in such vivid terms – Romney’s descent into birtherism should dispel it.
Talk about doubling down on whiteness.
Mitt Romney should be ashamed of himself, and so should anyone who votes for him.

His internal polls show him, if not his advisors, his weak points, and, as usual, several conservative factions in the Republican 'big tent' coalition are in the regular practice of walking out on the party when it fails to deliver.
Even with a serious fall off in Obama's popularity, Republicans can win the Presidency ONLY if they get out a very larger percentage of their base to vote.
Since Romney has become more educated about what really goes on inside the Republican party (having been away from that part of politics for most of his life) he has decided that the ABOs, the GOP-e, the high finance part of the Fiscalcons, as well as the Mainline Church crowd, and quite possibly the LDS have nowhere to go (like are they gonna' vote for 'bama), and he still needs more votes to insure a victory ~ so "Birthers" he's got your number. Of course if Romney wins nobody has to be a Birther anymore, eh! Still, he can use every Republican vote he can find.
Next stop, snakes in church ~ watch Governor Romney attend services at Mountain Top First Snake Apostolic Pentecostal ~ 9AM - Sunday. Git thar' 'arly. Parkin' be limited!

It should be obvious to any intelligent observer that nobama has some mental issues. The Repubs would be very smart to get an analysis from several mental health professionals. And then target hard, very hard.

My first question, too. A birth certificate is part of the standard human documentation in this country. (Almost) everyone has one, regardless of race.

My guess is Romney said this as well to appeal to the blue collar line guy. Even if many are Dem's, the concept has been floated that he is from someplace else and it conspiratorial aspects of it even appeals to them, for the fun of it, it is a guy's type of gossip instead of reading the Hollyweird Gossip Sheet like their wife's might...
Now Romney has their attention :-)...
