The gay marriage controversy may now be standing in the way of a new Chik-fil-A opening in California.
This week, five members of Santa Barbara's architectural board abstained from approving a landscaping plan for a restaurant. The move essentially halts the project from moving forward.
City Councilman Frank Hotchkiss condemned the board and requested its members resign.
"For a group thats supposed to working on architectural benefits for the city to just stop what they're doing because of their political views is outrageous," he said.
Board member Gary Mosel disagreed with Hotchkiss.
"I feel he's jumping the gun, and not knowing the situation and asking for our resignation is not a fair assessment," he said.
Mosel admitted he abstained from the vote because he's a member of two gay and lesbian groups. But he said each board member has their own reasons for not voting.
Naive my butt, Sounds like you would give up your freedom to appease a group that hates GOD and worships 0pansy. Where do you stop bending over? Are you willing to burn GOD and the Constitution as well? I truly hope not. Howard, you truly seem like you have strayed from GOD.
I will help you come back to GOD.
I didn't read that into his post at all. It's more a question of whether to fight this flagrant violation of the First Amendment in the courts or to allow Santa Barbara to suffer the natural consequences of turning away jobs and business. Eventually, California will die of self-inflicted wounds, and simple walking away and shaking the dust off your feet allows them to make that happen more quickly. In this instance, I'm with you that we should fight evil directly. They should be sued for both permission and for damages, with both the city and the individuals who made this un-American decision held liable.
No kidding. Local zoning boards are the closest thing to commissars that I have ever dealt with. Just horrible. And you have to stand there and say, “please sir...can I have another?”
I would sell the land to some hazardous waste disposal company for a few pennies and tell Santa Barbara to kiss my ass if they want any chicken.
Good points. What this illustrates is the danger of over-regulation. What you described can extend to everything we do as regulations grow.
I thought CA was against racism. Then again the state did allow a perverted homosexual to stalk and sexually harass a normal kid. That kid was forced to take action on his own, ending in the killing of a sexual predator homosexual.
Maybe not. The penultimate California example is Half Moon Bay. They went to the wall and lost big time.
They need to sue the city. It will be solved in a ny minute
Nah, Councilman Hotchkiss just needs to invite the Chik-Fil-A mobile lunch wagon to Santa Barbara on an upcoming Saturday afternoon. I am sure a thousand of us would show up. I will. Be sure to invite the rest of the S.B. pols to witness how much potential tax receipts to the city’s coffers.
At some point, we could all start chanting “ Eat Mor Chicken “ with the same cadence like at baseball games where the fans chant “ Let’s Go (local-team-name-here) “.
