My sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer, stage 1. An MRI was followed up by a biopsy at a clinic in Brooklyn after she detected lump. I don't know if she has seen a cancer specialist yet. She is having a tough time just communicating.
She just started a job 3 months ago, and her company health insurance is not in effect. So, no help there.
The clinic told her to apply for help through Medicaid. She makes maybe only $35,000. She was told that after getting accepted into some type of financial aid program that then she could seek a doctor who treated Medicaid patients. She has to wait probably 2 weeks to go through this paperwork before the next step.
We don't know what the next step would be, alhough she's been told that it might be radiation.
She wants to continue working while undergoing whatever treatment occurs. She lives alone in Brooklyn, and I fear she may not be able to handle work and treatment.
However, if I take care of her at my home, she'll lose her new job. She will also have to go through the Medicaid application again since I'm in a different state (so I've been told).
Can anyone tell me what we should be asking or doing better? I'd like to hear from people who have gone through this. I like having a plan.
I've watched a father-in-law go through stomach cancer, but no treatment helped. He went quickly after diagnosis. I'm hoping this has been caught early enough that that doesn't help.
Stage one she should be fine after treatment.
Friend, Healing is Gods desire for each and every one of us. As you read and agree with our prayer for breast cancer patients, never forget that by the stripes of Jesus Christ, we have healing. All Breast Cancer patients can be made whole by the stripes of Jesus Christ the Son of The Living God. Lord Jesus, thank You for hearing us, answering us, and quickly coming to our aid. God you say in Jeremiah 30:17 But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD Let restoration take place in all this dear friend in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
My ex wife had stage four. she is still here after six years and doing fine. I survived stage three colon cancer
Prayers for your sister’s health and healing.
prayers, also look into Carnivora Reagan took that for cancer he had
Stage 1? GOOD!!!!! Caught early, this can be turned around. My brother-in-law had lymphoma, diagnosed at Stage 4 and, unbeknownst to his entire family, he had NO insurance. He was treated like he did and received the best care.
So, you and your family need to rally around your sister and help her remain positive. That will take her quite far and she is in for some trying times ahead. I am thinking that she needs to talk to her HR dept. There may be some flexibility so far as her job and her illness but she may, in all likelihood, need to put her health first and try to come back to working after she is well again. It costs alot to hire someone and they may NOT want to let her go just yet but this is a conversation she will need to have at some point. (I wouldn’t think employers want to find out about serious illnesses second hand.)
This illness affects the entire family so be sure to take care of you. Take your sister in, she is in for some dark days ahead. You and your sister will be in my prayers. PM me if you need to vent. Cancer sucks.
Prayers coming from 4 little ones tonight.
Wow. Sorry to hear. I have a friend that has been given 6 months to live with pancreatic cancer. I have no experience with breast cancer. But please pass along to your sister that my church and family will be praying for her this week. I have faith that she will be healed and doing fine in short order!
Bless.
Dear Alma,
my mother beat breast cancer and lung cancer, and a friend from work had BC and was able to work the entire time. The biggest hurdle in many cases is mental.
Others have overcome this disease, so can your friend. The main thing is she must take care of herself, get enough sleep and eat right combined with maintaining a positive attitude.
She is in my prayers. Cancer no longer is the death sentence it used to be. Good luck to her, and God speed.

Thanks to all for your prayers and advice. It is beginning to sink in for all of us. I’m hoping the Stage 1 diagnosis is correct.
Attitude is everything...
She wears a shirt that says “these boobs are fake, my real ones tried to kill me”
Prayers up.
Did she receive radiation or chemo or both? Did she have surgery?
I’m thinking she needs surgery at the least.
How long did it take to get back to what could be considered normal life?
Prayers for you and your sister, and the entire family.
My mother was Stage III and recovered fully after mastectomy and radiation, living the rest of her life (about 20 yrs after diagnosis) cancer free. She was supposed use a driver to transport her to and from the radiation treatment so that'll be something to consider if you sister has her own transportation.
Your sister should talk with her doctors about being able to work during treatment.
my prayers for your sister. I have had three of my sisters have breast cancer. Two had double mastectomy’s and one a lumpectomy.
I did lose one sister last year but ironically it was her heart. She had conquered the cancer fine.
If she can get help right away with only stage 1 she is going to be okay.
Prayers for your sister, you and your family.
Praying for your sister.
You must get a copy of, “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer” in your hands right now!! Dr. John Lee, MD was an amazing innovator in the treatment of breast cancer. I knew him personally, amazing man (!), and though the pharmaceutical industry tried to silence him, this breakthrough book was published. It is a MUST read!
