An air of hostility now broods between the state of Arizona and the United States government. In the parent/child relationship between the two -- as upheld by the Supreme Court in its recent rulings on Arizona's immigration law -- Arizona finds itself in an unenviable position with a choice to make: 1) back down from a bullying federal government and fall into line; 2) wait out the problem and hope for a friendlier administration as soon as 2013; or 3) consider the unthinkable: find a path to secede from the United States.

I’m all for a nationwide state driven tax revolt. Hell I’ve long supported cutting our own state of Michigan off and making us fix our own problems.
I am amused at all of this talk about secession being “illegal.” Illegal in what sphere? Besides, what is justifiable is more important than any concept of legality. I confess that I am a bit surprised at some of the readiness of others on here to quietly back down.
“How can a state that was created by the federal government claim sovereignty?”
Is this facetious? I hope so.
In 1776 it was also illegal for the 13 colonies to secede from Great Briton. Then in 1861, 11 states did and it cost 600,000 lives to "Save the Union". I would guess that if Arizona did atempt to secede, there would be hell to pay. Both in the courts and in the field. That said, I would be more than happy to live in the Republic of Arizona.
The Feds would cut off vital services like Airport Landing Routes. They threatened Texas with a no-fly-zone a few years ago when they were in the process of kicking the TSA to the curb.
Show me the phrase or words in the constitution that says a state can secede from union. The states agreed to a union when they rejected the articles of confederation and adopted the constitution in 1787. This issue was settled in 1865. Of course I’m serious. If you think you can have a country where any state can leave and set up an independent country because some nuts in the state legislature decided they’re being oppressed, then you have some serious faults in logic. What does the word union mean to you? The idea that individual states can secede (and supposedly rejoin) willy-nilly is preposterous. PREPOSTEROUS!!! How’s that for being serious.
I can’t say about Arizona, but I am beginning to think Florida secedeing might not be a bad idea.
I would love to see the states divided. I am sick of liberals. Give them their own country and conservatives can have theirs. Independents can move to Canada.
I was looking for the like button! I was thinking the same thing. But, we would still be in the same fix.
“Independents can move to Canada.”

“Independents”???
Since they have no grounding, bedrock principles on ANY issue, and we can’t even define what they are are, they might just evaporate into thin air.....
You need to deduct those costs to come up with what part of what gets handled at all by a state.
I’m SO glad, Hispanic criminals find my Missouri so unattractive. Heck even Michigan’s Upper Penisula has a higher percentage of Illegals.
Interesting reference.
However, let’s say a state (oh, let’s say California) decides to give away various ‘rights’ to illegal aliens, and thereby bankrupts itself. To make good on all the Gov’t largess it has promised it’s citizens (legal and illegal) it must recieve huge “dontations” from other states.
Realizing that financial responsibilty is a fool’s game; other states soon decide to grant themselves obscene ‘rights’ at the expense of the other states. For argument’s sake, let’s pretend these states are along the Eastern seaboard and Michigan.
Now, a few states have effectively created a case of indentured servitude (slavery) for every other state - and since no state can succeed; there only recorse is a violent and bloody revolution.
The seeds have been sown, and the Libtards are using ample fertilizer to reap a crop that no one wants.
Was not the constituion originally ratified, only on the condition that - as demanded by many states - they be able to secede from the union if it “became destructive of these ends?” (protecting our right)
If the ctizens of the State didn’t have to pay FIT they could better afford to pay more for their own services without the federal government’s mandates and redistribution.
Lots of states could survive. Secession would also include NOT sending money to the fed gov.
If AZ chooses to do this, we will have to talk to Perry. maybe AZ wouldn’t have to be alone.
OF COURSE secession is illegal. You secede when you believe the sovereign power has gone outside of its authority to govern. No sovereign is going to allow secession to be a legal act.
