Obama law could send 1,000 cheap cigarette stores up in smoke (Another industry destroyed!)

It’s bad news for smokers and tobacco shops alike. Long regarded as a cheaper option for nicotine lovers, roll-your-own cigarettes are set to be a thing of the past as a new law is introduced by President Barack Obama.

In coming days he will sign a federal highway bill with a section defining any business with roll-your-own cigarette machines as a tobacco manufacturer and upping taxes on the its products, the Chicago Sun Times reported.

The move will come as a blow to smokers without brand loyalty who for years have been able to feed their habits at a fraction of the price of pre-rolled packs like Marlboro.

As a growing number of roll-your-own stores popped up across the states cheap smokes became increasingly available and an understandably more attractive option for smokers...

I know our dad or grandad’s generations wouldn’t have put up with 10% of this sh*t! Are we a nation of pussies? Wasn’t the Revolutionary War over a one-percent tax?

Wonder how many of these guys voted for “Hope and Change.”

Wonder how many will vote for him again in 2012.

I’m guessing a good number....

No it was over a number of taxes, having to quarter troops in your house, King George not allowing the colonies to end slavery as long as they were part of the empire (which 6-7 did as soon as war started), having to import bibles from Britain, couldn’t print their own. And then having no representation as king’s governors could dissolve colonial governments as well as the king doing so.

And your point would be...what exactly? Do you see a difference to what is happening now?

“I wanna ask her how that hopey changey thing is workin’ out for her....”

I bet she feels as foolish as all the conservatives who voted for all the Republicans who also voted for this tax hike.

The colonists objected on the grounds not that the taxes were high (they were low) but that they had no representation in the Parliament.

The British were trying to pay off their war debt(which was huge) by taxing the American colonies without their consent.

Molasses Act, Sugar Act, Currency Act, Quartering Acts, Stamp Act, etc...

"Are we a nation of pussies? "

Yes, yes we are a nation of pussies. It's sad, but true.

Why else can people who should have been busy lynching their Senators be complaining about a single Justice not knocking down the law those Senators passed? Everyone knows that if the Supremes had knocked down BarryCare King Barry would have done exactly what Jackson did and said, "they've ruled, now let them enforce it" not long before he went ahead and moved the Cherokee half way across the country.

My wife's family are all folks who descend from two couples who hid and changed their names right after they heard what Jackson said, and they're are all through Western NC and Northern GA, not Oklahoma. Do you think they believe that what the Supreme Court rules really makes any difference?

Regards

And what does the "Transportation Bill" have to do with Tobacco and Roll your own machines and outlets?

Ah, for that answer, one would have to ask "he" who inserted a last minute amendment to the Transportation Bill and that would be none other than FAR LEFT, corrupt (aren't they all?) Demo-Rat, Max Baucus.

It is speculated that Big Tobacco was behind this move as they were losing revenue (as was the Feds in the form of taxes) and if a "few" businesses were thrown under the bus and thousands of smokers were forced to pay more for their habit...well, too freekin bad.

The Central-Planning, Nanny-State, Big Gumbint speaks with hypocritical, forked tongue; while it rails against the eeeevil of smoking, it relies heavily on its taxes and the more people cut back or quits smoking altoghether, the more ways it finds to continue to reap as much as it always has by raising the taxes on tobacco products, shutting down the ability to purchase this product online (from Indian reservations) or even, closing down minor businesses such as this.

And Big Tobacco could care less as all they ever do is pass on all additional costs and taxes on to the consumer.

The House put this in the transportation bill. It’s a good thing. Many large tobacco companies make pipe tobacco...pipe tobacco did not get the huge tax increase like cigarettes did a few years ago. So...’pipe’ tobacco is now made to put in roll your own cigarettes. It has hidden under ‘pipe’ tobacco for too long. It has cut into cigarette profits big time. It’s like a liquor store selling whiskey...but labeling and calling it ‘apple juice’ and providing a distiller for folks to come in, pour ‘apple juice’ into the machine and leave with a bottle of moon shine. Good amendment in a bad bill.

McKenzie blamed the closure on government policies that group cigarettes, chewing tobacco and cigars under the label of tobacco and increasingly regulate them all.

He said the one that really hurt came in April when a federal tobacco tax hike took effect to pay for the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

When Hav-A-Tampa opened more than 100 years ago, Tampa was known as Cigar City.

Democrats have killed an industry and cultural in Tampa as only1 Cigar factory remains.

‘It’s designed to put these people out of business,’ he told the Huffington Post. ‘They couldn’t get a manufacturer’s permit if they wanted to.’

Stuff-your-own-cigarettes smokers can still buy one-at-a-time machines for $6.00 -- I think the cigarette makers just purchased enough law from Congress to destroy the competitors with thousand-dollar machines in their shops.

Next will be the $6 machines. How much will Congress charge for that I wonder? $100 a piece?

95% of the libs I know smoke.

Personally: I think smokers should go to the back of the line when Obamacare is implemented.
