On his Sunday show Reliable Sources, CNN host and Daily Beast Washington bureau chief Howard Kurtz made it clear that he disapproved of The Daily Caller reporter Neil Munros attempt to ask President Barack Obama a question during his immigration announcement on Friday.
However, he then asked guest Matt Lewis, also a contributor to The Daily Caller, to react to Munros attempt, asking if he would have done the same thing. That led to the following exchange between Lewis and Kurtz.
Transcript as follows:
KURTZ: All right. Matt, hes your colleague at The Daily Caller. But a lot of conservatives have criticized what he did. He claimed Neil Munro says he believed the president was closing his remarks. He had no intention of interrupting him. But he kept on talking while the president was trying to speak. LEWIS: Well, first of all a little about Neil Munro. Hes actually an Irish immigrant himself. He was with the National Journal for a decade. So, hes a seasoned reporter. I think, if you put it in context, President Obama, first of all, the policy bypasses Congress KURTZ: No, no, no, Ive only got a few seconds. LEWIS: The speech KURTZ: Would you have done what he did? Was he wrong? LEWIS: Cenk [Uygur] just said that we should be aggressive when asking questions. There was going to be no question and answer. This was the only chance he had to ask a question. KURTZ: Happens all the time. He had no business interrupting the president. LEWIS: The press corps should be a little less deferential to authority. KURTZ: This is not a question of being differential. Ask all the questions you want, you can shout question LEWIS: Where in the Constitution does it say you cant ask questions? This is protocol and its etiquette. But its not constitutional. He did the right thing. KURTZ: I understand. I understand that you have to defend your guy LEWIS: Its not defending my guy. Its defending the right for reporters to ask questions.
Do not question the king’s authority, you peasant!
We understand, Kurtz. you have to defend your guy. You tapeworm.
UNreliable Sources. Kurtz is a Obama lapdog putz.
“The breach of decorum by a conservative reporter will not be forgotten by the Left”
Whatever - at least he’s fighting back. I prefer that to the “win by losing” losers.
broken link.
Neil Munros colonoscopy will be on national news any minute now.
The topic would not have even occurred to Kurtz were we talking about Pres. Bush.
Leftwing journalists can't do any worse than they already do. If they try they'll just look like the *ssholes they are to the entire world.
Obama hates questions and he’s afraid if he answers them the truth of what he thinks may slip out . what’s the point of having reporters there if they can’t ask questions
The -resident is a pansy who can’t handle himself in public.
Not buying that for a second. Even left reporters want to report stories and Republican presidents that I recall have answered questions, unlike the arrogant turkey that now resides in the WH.
IS ANYONE GOING TO ASK OBAMA IF HE AUTHORIZED THE LEAKS?
WHAT IF IT WAS BUSH?
Well, let’s use a comparison to reach the answer:
When the Valerie Plame leak happened, Bush publicly ordered everyone in his administration to go forth and reveal everything they knew, he allowed an independent prosecutor to head the investigation, and he personally agreed to be interrogated over the entire matter.
In this case, which has much more serious implications, Obama has ordered nobody to go forth, is letting his own criminal Atty General Eric Holder handle the cover-up, and has not agreed to be interrogated himself.
So the stonewalling makes it pretty clear that the so-called “leaks” came from high up in the Obama admisisration.
TOSS THIS INFO INTO THE LAP OF YOUR OBAMA SUPPORTER.
BS.
I remember how respectful and worried about decorum the press was under Bush 43, Bush 41, Reagan, Ford and Nixon.
Don’t forget Colon Powell stood by and let the wrong man go to jail.
I also won’t forget Bush should have pardoned him and didnt.
Munro asked the question because a press conference with Obama is a very rare occurance. Of course, nobody from the Lame Stream Media calls him out on that.
Oh, I get that alright and you’re right about the president blocking Q&A, of course. There was reason to push the envelope. I get that too.
Still, the Left will be happy to use this breach thing for doubling down and handing it back. It won’t matter to them that a Republican president is open to press Q&A following a presentation, if they can use this as an excuse to interrupt, I just think we can count on it. Abusing privilege is their calling card.
Now they have a public precedent to flog and that isn’t BS.
Uh, those weren't conservatives.
Are you suggesting that Munro's behavior will now give anti-Republican journalists a license to act like Sam Donaldson?
