I’ve never understood “white guilt”. Maybe it’s me, but I just don’t get it. I lost a lot of family in the Holocaust, but I don’t go around trying to make anyone I meet with a German last name feel guilty. The only Germans I hold responsible for it are the ones who did the killing. The ones who were born afterword had nothing to do with it.

The whole reparations thing is just the redistribution of wealth with a bunch of race baiting for good measure. Yes, slavery was wrong. No one in their right mind would think otherwise. Would a check from the Federal Leviathan right that wrong ? No. Would some sort of formal apology make it go away ? No. Ellison knows that, but he just doesn’t care. A divided, balkanized people is far easier to control.

I live in a predominantly black neighborhood and have never had a problem. My neighbors are very nice and we get along just fine. We didn’t need diversity training, or any other crud like that. We’re simply neighbors being neighborly.

If so I’ll give him that but then he has to give me this: his people held my people in slavery for over 400 years and it took a number of acts of God to set us free and even then his people tried to chase us down to re-enslave us. So his people need to pay us reparations with 4,000 years worth of compound interest to boot. Or his people could just call it even and get off of their “Give-Me” fat butts and go about the business of fending for themselves.

He seems to be paying tribute to Thrasymachus as well. Under the Sophistic guile of this statement lies the irrefutable fact that not one of the "we" to whom he refers has ever been a slave.

In fact our greatest sin has been gifting that "we" with the biggest free ride that any group in America has ever received.

No doubt the ease with which they have been allowed comfortable subsistence and unearned admission to the best schools has cheapened their experience of "success" and exacerbated the feeling that somehow they have missed out on some of life's best but hardest lessons.

Cheap rhetoric, false gods and gratuitous comfort. No plantation shackle was ever so effective at binding the human spirit.
