Yesterday on a thread FReeper marron was very good to discribe her very own Financial SHTF experience. Seeing what is more than likely coming our way I believe her post to be extremely valuable information and I am posting it here again to make sure that as many FReepers read it.
Thank you marron the firsthand expereince and the information you shared is priceless to those currently prepping and should be eye opening to those that aren't.
Yes they were, they all had many centuries indicating and expressing their volatility, and violent divisions and religious wars, they all come from a different history, a different culture than the centuries old America.
This isn't about some "passions".

I’m no political guru. Frame your question so that it has a fixed focal point. When you refer to ‘it can’t happen here’, what is the “it” in your question? And why do you ask me to address a non sequitur like, “Good thing Americans are a fundamentally different people from Germans, eh?”
Elected officials at all levels (local, state, federal), and many bureaucrats, will find ways to confiscate, extort, or just plain steal enough wealth and power to maintain or increase their lofty positions.
And let's not forget that wherever a vacuum is created an opportunist will rush in to fill the void.
For my own part, I had been feverishly excited all day. Something very like the war fever that occasionally runs through a civilised community had got into my blood, and in my heart I was not so very sorry that I had to return to Maybury that night. I was even afraid that that last fusillade I had heard might mean the extermination of our invaders from Mars. I can best express my state of mind by saying that I wanted to be in at the death.
I appreciate the sarcasm but you are correct. We are fundamentally different in one significant way;

This one thing will guarantee that the coming collapse will bear little resemblance to 1930s Germany.

Selco talks about this on his blog about how when things went to hell in Bosian it didn’t take long for the young to learn the vaule of the expereinces and the wisdom of the old.

I contend that Americans are the same flesh as people all over the world, we all share, at a fundamental level, every flaw and strength the most sophisticated Berliner, the highest Mandarin, the most independent Amazonian tribesman has.
This commonality is why I don’t think it’s a non sequitur to compare Americans to other peoples around the world. Although we are, by and large, a kinder, gentler and more giving a people than the earth has ever known, that is a thin veneer of civilization we have managed to pound onto our baser nature.
The ‘it’ is the ability of circumstances and demagogs to peal away that veneer and convert a civilization into an unimaginably cruel and evil parody of itself.
We are not that many generations from murdering Indian children because “nits make lice”, from owning and beating slaves to death, from lynchings, from incinerating entire cities full of men, women and children. We still have the genes for all those horrors and so much more.
How is it possible to avoid revisiting equivalents of these shameful acts in our future (both in general, and specifically given our current cultural trajectory)?

The most critical thing to always keep in mind is that the political class will do whatever is necessary to protect itself, FIRST. When the SHTF, the scumbag government elite will hunker down and throw EVERYBODY else - - everybody else who is not “connected” - - under the bus and do whatever else is necessary to keep their own comfy lifestyles fully intact. They will be the LAST people in America to suffer in any way, shape, manner, or form. That fact is simply not arguable.
