Powell, on his book tour, made the following comments on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” to host Joe Scarborough:
“And sometimes they (neoconservatives) might be in a position to make judgments or recommendations to the candidate that should get a second thought. For example, when Gov. Romney not too long ago said the Russian federation is our number one geostrategic threat.”
“C’mon, Mitt — think! That isn’t the case. And I don’t know whether Mitt really feels that or — It’s been catching a lot of heck from regular GOP foreign affairs community. We were kind of taken aback by it. Look at the world. There is no pure competitor to the United States of America.”
This tells me that Powell is working to disarm the American electorate from the fact that Zer0 is doing a horrendous job in foreign affairs. He is working for the DemonRATs.

But they and the rest of their Left leaning pals couldn't stand up to true Conservatism (AKA Classical Liberalism) once the Nation experienced it again, dare I say it lasted all the way up until 2008 (or 06 if you want to count the Congressional elections). Even once Clinton got in, the people sent in a Repub congress that kept him occupied so he could do as little as damage as possible.
So Colin, now that we have suffered under your hand picked candidate. I do think that a Ronald Reagan could be elected too. (if only Romney wasn't the worst parts of Nixon and Carter put together)
Agreed. His flip-flopping on DADT and gay marriage have done even more damage, as far as I’m concerned.

I strongly disagree with Powell. “Ronald Reagan WOULD Get Elected If He Were Running Today”.
General Powell does not owe his stars to affirmative action. By all indicators I have seen following him for many years, he was an excellent combat commander, well liked by his men, respected by his superiors, honest and plain spoken.
As Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the First Gulf War, he did an excellent job of communicating not only with the troops and the government, but in making the war aims understandable while fostering patriotic endeavor among the citizenry.
Is there anyone here who cannot remember his clear, frank and above all concise explanations of that era? "Our strategy to go after this army is very, very simple. First we're going to cut it off, and then we're going to kill it."
Let's not forget that in 1996, Conservatives across the nation -- I included -- were practically on hands and knees begging Powell to run for the Republican nomination, and if he had, he would have been a virtual shoo-in.
And let me go further.
Up until the day, the nano-second, when he announced his support for Obama, Colin Powell was one of the most respected names in the Republican Party and most of us -- again, including myself -- would have walked barefoot over hot coals for a chance to shake his hand.
OK. Times change. We find now his social positions and opinions are (or maybe never were) precisely in line with the values we hold as strict Conservatives. Why didn't we find out about that sooner? Because when he served as a soldier, then as Secretary of State, he supported his boss's position because that is what he swore to do and the man takes his oaths seriously.
He endorsed Obama. Ugh. He now supports gays in the military and gay marriage. I don't. Fine. Go ahead and blast him for that. He's a private citizen now, entitled to his opinions, just as we are entitled to disagree with them.
But to insinuate that he owes anything in his life to affirmative action is denigrate an undeniably stellar career, an absolutely first class mind, and an eminently honorable man.
Statements like yours make Free Republic and Conservatives seem every bit as racist as the Democrats say we are.

Colin Powell is a liberal or moderate Republican who is pro-choice regarding abortion, supports affirmative action and “reasonable” gun control. Although Powell is against gay marriage, he supports and helped craft the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the United States military, along with Bill Clinton. He has also been critical of the current policy in Iraq. In 2005, Powell telephoned two Senator’s, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska (also liberal Republicans) asking them to oppose the nomination of John R.
