Shepard Fairey, the man who created the iconic Obama "Hope" poster, couldn't put the paintbrush down when it came to the case of Trayvon Martin.
Fairey is known for his amazing artwork and has continuously drawn inspiration from people who've made a significant difference in news and pop culture.
Commissioned by Ebony Magazine, Fairey created the piece a few months ago and will be featured in the magazine when it hits newsstands this week.
On the Trayvon painting, Fairey said:
"I have followed Trayvons case closely and I think any compassionate human being can relate to Trayvon as a brother or son and would want to see a thorough investigation into the killing of an unarmed person. In my portrait I wanted to emphasize Trayvons humanity as well as the public outcry for a just investigation into his death."
For many of us, Trayvon's story has touched the entire nation, sparking a creative revolution among artists and musicians alike.
Kathleen Pfeiffer · Albuquerque, New Mexico Beautiful but such a sad look in his eyes (he must be reacting to all the crap being said since he was murdered).
LaTasha Monique · VSU VERY NICE! RIP to this beautiful Child! xoxoxoxo!
Looks just like 0bama.
What does he do- scan it into photo shop and then generate a paint-by-numbers painting? All his stuff looks suspiciously like that
I love how the hoodie looks all blood-spattered. Should have made his eyes into big “X”s too. That would have worked.
Some just can’t handle the truth.
JUST
ICE
TRAYVON!
Because I laugh at things like that.
It's certainly not a freehand painting or drawing. Speaking of which, has anyone yet pasted Martin's photo into the Obama "Hope" poster generator? I'm thinking the caption "Looks like..." would work perfectly.
Why is the media allowed to get away with using images of this kid when he was 12 instead of showing him at 17 as the gold-toothed, gang-banging POS that he really was?
and I think any compassionate human being ..that's me.
can relate to Trayvon .....uhhhhhhh
as a brother or son .....Ok, he lost me here. I don't have a brother. However, I do have a son. If he turned out to be a dope-smoking gang-banger wannabe, the only way that I'd be relating to him would be out behind the woodshed.

_____________
And because this is your outlook and set of standards, your son won’t turn out to be a dope smoking gang banger. Amazing how parenting works out that way.
Anyway, I used my artistic talents to create this portrait of Zimmerman:
1) I actually thought this was going to be something about Shep Smith from FOX news. I guess it was the Shepard Fairey that threw me.
2) Call me “not compassionate” then.
No kidding. That’s amateur photoshop stuff.
THUG is a better title
No, that’s David “Shepard the Fairy” Smith, not Shepard Fairey.
“What does he do”
You can do this kinda stuff with a simple old slide projector. I used to do that on bass drum heads for bands I was in. Incredibly simple to do. No talent required.
