It is crucial to understand when SHTF starts. I think it is one of the most important things, to recognize that, in some cases it is more important to recognize that event and correct moment than to be prepared for that, no matter how strange this sounds.
I believe this is the truth because knowing when things turn bad can give you chance of escape.
But even if it is too late for escape, if you know this is a survival situation you think different. Make different decisions, think twice when dealing with strangers in need or accepting help from stranger who want your best or at least say so.
How do I prepare to know when survival mode has to kick in? Here are 5 symptoms that show that you might have a terrible disease in your area that can kill and that disease is called SHTF, society collapse or fight to survive. It comes with many names but if you know the first symptoms you can fight it better, earlier and smarter or avoid it.

It seems to me that all of those symptoms are already manifesting themselves. Good thing my food preps are squared away. Weapons, still working on that one...
” I guess my wife is right, I am inpatient. “
They’re late bringing the meds around again, huh??
;)
I believe it. You can always count on Seattle marches to feature people in dolphin and baby seal costumes, costumes that are just plain indescribable and/or no costume at all.
No one was more surprised than that bunch when, during the WTO riots, their march was co-opted by well-prepared, well-funded and well-coordinated anarchists who trashed Pioneer Square shops and then split to leave the poor little dears to bear the brunt of the police response.
There’s always a surreal, Dada-ist flavor to these scenes.
BTW, I’m impressed with that little Romanian TTC tokarev pistol. Packs a surprising punch. Perfect fit for my concealment vests. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, “Romanian term limits.”
Man I’d love to grab one of those, but it’s another caliber, I’d have to get 3 so we each have one plus a spare for parts, and ammo. So I’m going to stick with the plan of laying in Makarov ammo in bulk when I can. Already got the 2+1 of those. LOL
Or maybe I’ll see if I can talk Mrs L into it... I’ll let you know how that works out. LOL
Man, that Makarov in a “CLOSE_IN” weapon. Almost might as well hit the perp with it. As in bash him in the head.
Still, in urban warfare, etc...

Oh, I don’t know...
Just about every day, we see people making 100 yd snap-shots in the ten-ring, with a .38 Chief’s Special, 1” barrel..
Then, they go to commercial... ;)
Those little Czech CZ pistols are wicked accurate my friend. I had no trouble dumping a full mag in the 7 ring of a silhouette target at 21 feet, rapid fire. Really controllable, real reliable, and the punch of a .38 special.
I bought them so me and the Mrs. could have the same pistol in our car bags. Two spare mags each and a box of ammo that fits in your pocket. All for less than $300 per. That’s a damned bargain my friend.
If I could have afforded “better” I would have done it. But after getting to know those fine little pistols I’m completely confident they’ll do the job if we ever need them to.
Just my opinion, of course.
That’s not the sign the world is ending. That just means hell froze over.
Ohhhh, you have the Czech model. Perhaps that is better.
Mine is Russian. Dudes have 450 ml of vodka for breakfast.
LOL.
7. The Cubs win the World Series (because you know then that the world is coming to an end)
Actually, that is a sign that Hell has frozen over.
They’re the CZ-82 model. I picked up 3 when they were around $200 a copy. One each for me and the Mrs, and one for parts. 3 spare mags each.
We’ve been looking for bargains on the surplus market lately and if you see one I recommend you snap it up. You’ll be shocked at the quality of those guns. I was. They ain’t pretty, but they’re a real value at the price. You can find ammo pretty cheap in the interwebs, too.
Even if you have better stuff, and we do, there’s nothing wrong with having a couple of good quality mil surp firearms put back, just in case. One never knows when a friend in need might drop by.
Twice recently, my neighbor had 'bad things happen(tm)' and she reacted exactly the wrong way both times. She just isn't mentally prepared for a kitchen fire, or an intruder in the house. It doesn't happen to her, except when it did.
Both times, she called me instead of 911. Both times, I had her call 911 after dealing with the immediate issue.
She coughed for 2 weeks because she wouldn't leave the house until I forced her to during the kitchen fire.
I really don't think she can be trained out of it at this point.

I’m late to the party...is there room for another on your prepper ping list?
I was worried until I got to the clowns. Best laugh today.
I’m pleased I could brighten your day a bit.
Best,
