With the 2012 Doomsday date quickly approaching, anxiety and fear are gripping more and more people across the globe. According to a recent survey of individuals in over twenty countries, 15% of people worldwide believe the end of the world as we know it will happen in our lifetime.

“Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming,” said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters.

“Perhaps it is because of the media attention coming from one interpretation of the Mayan prophecy that states the world ‘ends’ in our calendar year 2012,” Gottfried said, adding that some Mayan scholars have disputed the interpretation.

You posted a good, helpful constructive response . . . We have had two occasions where popular selling, national brand pasta we brought home developed weevils. They spread fast and are tough to get rid of. So it is advisable to put pasta in the freezer for a while if you are going to keep it for any length of time. Freefing kills the eggs (if any) before they can hatch. We like to freeze it for at least 10 days.

Thanks for the kind words and for mentioning an excellent point that I omitted. I freeze all starches (flour, rice, pasta, mashed potatoes, grits, etc.) for a week, based on hints I've read here. So far I haven't had any bug problems with prepper food, and I credit freezing the food with preventing those problems. As you said: This is what sharing thoughts and experiences on these threads is all about.

Here’s a minor little ting I just started doing lately.

I travel a lot for my job. Hotel stays 2-4 nights a week. When I leave I take the shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, make-up remover wipes, etc. They expect the guests to use these so what the heck. (I usually pack my own shampoo, etc.)

It’s amazing how fast the stuff starts piling up.

Which if I did you have come from his comments in the article the thread was about. Now why quoting some one from the article the thread was about is VERY confusing. I have to wonder if I haven't made a enemy of one of our Moderators?

Perhaps it's because people can see the world coming apart at the seams.

We're coming apart morally, society is breaking down, and we have technology that we no longer have the integrity or wisdom to keep pace with using.

I don't know that any other generation has had quite the capability to annihilate itself, or be annihilated by some madman starting a chain reaction of strikes and counter-strikes.

Certain segments of humanity have shown us recently what humankind is capable of and it isn't a pretty sight.

Under normal circumstances underestimation can be fatal. In a disaster, it WILL be fatal.

The margin for error is going to shrink dramatically in a SHTF scenario.

3.5 floppies are 'old school'. Sigh. I still have SSSD 128K 8" floppies with DBase and WordStar on them. My nephew calls my living room the 'museum exhibit of ancient technology'.

I was just at a museum the other day. You know, there's something really wrong about going to a museum and finding yourself tripping down memory lane. I should NOT be reliving my childhood in a museum.
