BREAKING NEWS: Ron Paul Still Running For Some Reason
Moore Common Sense ^ | 4/25/12 | Alan Moore

Posted on 04/25/2012 6:35:21 AM PDT by alan8228

Ron PaulEven though Ron Paul continued his losing streak of 0 primary wins in his third time running for president, the soon to be ex-congressman from Texas still vows to continue his futile efforts to the GOP convention:

Rep. Ron Paul will not step aside even if Mitt Romney soon clinches the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the Republican presidential nomination, the candidate said Monday.

"If tomorrow, Romney had the absolute number, I would probably continue in a modified way to maximize the number of delegates to go to the convention," Paul said on CNBC's "Squawk Box," adding that his supporters insist he stay in the running.

A couple of takeaways:

1. If you are still sending Ron Paul money then go into your kitchen, grab a frying pan, and hit yourself square in the face. Then go to your toilet, take out your wallet, empty it into said toilet and flush. You will have made a more worthwhile investment.

2. Now that there is zero chance of Ron Paul ever becoming president, the Paul campaign has shifted their focus to getting as many delegates as possible to the RNC convention in order to influence the Republican Party platform:

[Paul campaign manager Jesse] Benton acknowledged the increasing possibility that Paul would not be the GOP nominee, but made clear that the “secondary goal of all of our political action [has been] getting limited-government, libertarian-leaning folks involved and taking over the party apparatus.”
Part of the plan for doing that is accumulating enough delegates to give the Texas congressman the necessary leverage in Tampa to mold the GOP platform to his taste. By finishing second in the delegate tally Tuesday night, Paul kept his hopes for doing so alive.

This is about the dumbest political goal I've ever heard. The party platform? That's the end-all-be-all for the Ron Paul campaign? Send me a check for $1000 if you think the party platform means anything, anything at all. Assuming these libertarians hijack the party platform and fill it with isolationism, anti-semitism, and a cowardly foreign policy do you think if Mitt Romney is elected president he's going to be bound by that? Do you think ANY candidate will be bound by the party platform?

The platform is a stated set of nonbinding policy positions. It has little to no consequence on any election in the United States and would be changed by a Mitt Romney Administration at the next convention if they couldn't do it sooner. Not that it would even matter but just for the sake of de-crazying (Not a word, I know. Please don't be a nerd and correct my grammar) it they would.

3. There are not as many Ron Paul supporters as his votes would indicate. For instance, in Virginia you could only vote for Ron Paul or Mitt Romney. At that point Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich still had somewhat of a chance left and their supporters voted AGAINST Ron Paul. Mitt Romney still hasn't won over every Republican and there are still protest votes against him in these nominating contests. If Ron Paul went third party most of those votes would disappear immediately.

4. Ron Paul tried this delegate stealing strategy in 2008 and guess what, he did not become the GOP nominee or president.

5. If you actually think Ron Paul will get enough delegates to somehow steal the RNC convention and become the GOP nominee then please reread point #1 and follow through.

The posts on this thread illustrate perfectly why “conservatives” are now saddled with Mittens. They are so easily manipulated...Hope you all enjoy the Mittens/OBamalini race...or is it the Obamalini/Mittens race....or does it making any difference which one wins (other than that Mittens would be a president with better hair and is a little smarter)?

The difference is that anyone voting for Ron Paul would either not vote if he were not running or might actually vote for Obama.

I am not concerned about a Ron Paul third party run. He is likely to drawl more loonies from Obama than he would from our candidate.

“Ron Paul Still Running For Some Reason...”

Did Harold Stassen need a “reason” to run?

It’s about the journey, not the destination...

That’s it! RP “attack ads” doomed - I say doomed! - the Santorum and Gingrich campaigns. Funny, though,...I don’t remember either Gingrich or Santorum expressing any concern about RP ads...I thought they were PO’d at some other guy with a lot of money and support from the R establishment blanketing the airwaves with outright lies. Golly...I must be “misremembering” what happened.

“Maybe he really wants to be President. Or maybe he wants the exposure for his cause because he is a true bleiever. Or maybe he just has a giant ego and wont let go of it”

I believe it is the former.
And his foreign policy is STILL insane.

I only know that I was prepared to give Ron Paul the benefit of the doubt until he ran all those vicious attacks on everyone not named “Ron Paul” (and by the way...anyone not named “Mitt Romney”) in the SC primaries. The guy’s a scumbag and monomaniac who Gingrich and Santorum wisely chose to ignore.

Paul's goal and his purpose in the GOP race has been to detract votes away from serious conservatives like Perry, Bachmann, Newt and others.

It may have been, but as stands now it should backfire on him because of the concerted effort by conservatives to take down this GOPe.

Now it's just a question are conservatives going to go for it at the convention?

Remember this, Romney has to get PLEDGED delegates!

“I will not be voting repub....” Please continue to try to dictate the terms of Obama’s replacement, refusing to accept the fact of the two party system and make the best choice to vote. I can remember my step-mom prouding claiming she voted for Snoopy in 76/80 timeframe. Just understand that your voice is your vote. If you dislike the democrats then vote republican or for a candidate who opposes them. At a Tea Party supporter, I try to find the most fiscal responsible person. I hate Romeny, but he will absolutely be more fiscally responsible as president than Obama - not even a trick question. I don’t agree with half of what Romeny stands for, however, I will take him or Obama’s agenda anyday.

I would rather vote for Ron Paul than the inevitable betrayal of Mittens Romney as he RINOs it up as Potus and ushers in another Socialist DIM-O-CRAT in 2016...

Fillmore appointed Brigham Young as the first governor of the Utah Territory in 1850.[15] In gratitude for creating the Utah Territory in 1850 and appointing Brigham Young as governor, Young named the territorial capital “Fillmore” and the surrounding county “Millard”.

WOW had no idea about THIS little nugget...

OR this:
Taylor and Fillmore disagreed on the slavery issue in the new western territories taken from Mexico in the Mexican–American War. Taylor wanted the new states to be free states, while Fillmore supported slavery in those states to appease the South. In his own words: “God knows that I detest slavery, but it is an existing evil ... and we must endure it and give it such protection as is guaranteed by the Constitution.”

I am sure mitt will keep supporting those entitlement programs that are a form of slavery as Mitt will say it is “protected by the constitution” in much the same way Millard Fillmore will.

He may not be the perfect candidate, but he isn’t crazy, monomaniacal, or a scumbag. Unfortunately, a similar treatment was given to every leading Mittens alternative by the partisans of candidates who were not leading. The result is Mittens. I hope everyone is happy. Once Huntsman and Pawlenty were gone, I could have lived with anyone but Mittens.
