Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum holds a four-point lead in his home state in Rasmussen Reports first look at the upcoming Pennsylvania Republican Primary.
A new statewide telephone survey finds that 42% of Likely GOP Primary Voters support Santorum, while former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney picks up 38% of the vote. Texas Congressman Ron Paul earns seven percent (7%), and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at six percent (6%). Two percent (2%) like some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

Of course, the real poll will be when Republicans actually vote in PA, but Rasmussen, while not infallible, has a very good track record.
The very liberal PPP poll, imo, tried to get it right in the past to gain credibility, but have, and are, getting it wrong more recently, to sway the election for Romney.
I can remember when Zogby used to do that, and now Zogby is no longer the big deal it used to be.
I hope the poll is correct. Someone has to stop us from being “rolled by Romney.”
Unfortunately, polls - even well conducted - are obsolete a day after them come out. Things are just so volatile. Plus, now the “Superdelegates” are being quoted by the MSM as saying “Romney has won.” That will sway public opinion and suppress voting.
I know it will never happen...but the primary process for the GOP is broken. IMO - open primaries and caucuses need to be verboten. The idea of establishment “super delegates” is troubling as well.
“I hope the poll is correct. ..”
As I said the real poll will be when Republicans actually vote in PA, and we agree on that.
Rick Santorum will probably do better in PA when voters actually have to make a decision. Many in PA really like Rick, and voted for him 4 out of 5 times in PA. Plus, there’s the fact that they many will want to support a “home-town” candidate.
But when seeing so many responses by FReepers when the biased LIBERAL PPP poll showed Romney ahead, I thought I should post a poll from Rasmussen, a pollster with a good track record, and was published ON THE SAME day, as the PPP poll.

Concur. I think the closet supporters of Romney are starting to come out of the woodwork. They “claim” they are just about ABO, but they don’t fool me.
There are some on this forum that are rabidly against anyone Socially Conservative as Santorum is. I actually find it rather scary the depth of hatred against SOCONs seen here. It is sad, because as even Rush has pointed out, the “party elites” are ashamed to be associated with SOCONs.
Self-proclaimed morals-and-values candidate Santorum's supporters have a peculiar relationship with honesty and self-deception.
If Romney's doing this well in PA, it's truly over for Rick. He would lose PA to Obama if we were unfortunately enough to have him as the GOP nominee.
Sola Veritas nails it. Many of us have realized this for a while. As I’ve said before, the greatest enemies of social conservatives are liberal Republicans.
The Republican Party became a much stronger force a quarter century or so ago with the dramatic influx of many active social conservatives. One of the most significant results of this year’s election process may be the exodus of millions of social conservatives from the election process, to the long-term detriment of the Republican Party.
I don’t think that was correct; however, I would note that Georgia is a pretty solid republican state, while Pennsylvania is quite purple, and has voted Democrat for President.
People in Pa aren't voting for Santorum because they like him!..... for crying out loud....they booted his sorry butt out because they knew him for what he is....and hated him for what he did.....their voting for him because they have no choice in order to keep Romney at bay....has nothing to do with Rick's being liked....he's not...and with good reason.
Futher....Santorum was dumped on us by Obama and the media pimps he called into action to raise Santorum up after Iowa....he certainly didn't rise because of his own merit
....the whole Primary hasn't been about the best candidate at all...it's been about taking out Romney and beating Obama...and keeping Newt out of the race....and the whole thing stinks worse then the sewer it's coming from.
I'm beyond disgusted with them all....including the social conservatives who refused to see Santorums record and that he was the bait put out there by the Obama Machine.
The politicians supporting Santorum here in PA. are doing so because they see the "gravy train" coming if he wins....you won't see their honest remarks about Santo because they aren't going to bite of their noses to spite their faces.....but I've sure heard them...and even from the get go Santorum had zip zero support from any in Congress but a handfull if that....there was a reason for that...and he remains Un-liked..everyone is simply making due with what's left to do with.
I tell ya,....the mindset of those who aren't seeing this game for what it is is astounding! They only see the players and not the game plays.
the greatest enemies of social conservatives are liberal Republicans.
These are the same people that fought against Reagan.
....they booted his sorry butt out because they knew him for what he is....
You don’t know what you are writing about. Santorum lost to Casey, it was mostly the Democrat voters that voted against him, and it was a bad year for many Republicans nationwide.
Santorum played his cards and he lost....he knew the risk and he put his own Political aspirations ahead of the people, and as well those who tried to advise him... and has done so all along his career path...and left many a politicians with his hand print on their faces...so to speak.
I've been glad to see times when rick's been on the edge ready to blow his cool....he has a temper that's well known to those who have worked with him. But he's had to work hard to keep it at bay in the primary....when you know him you can see when he's doing just that.
Sanatorium supporters are not going to be swayed to see Santorum in any other light then the one they choose to see him in. But Presidential material he is not by any sense of the word. He's a wannabee Politician and will always be so with other people doing his work and heavy lifting for him.
You can imagine my utter disdain in having to vote for him just to keep Romney at bay...but that is the game right now...and I've all but given up as our entire political system of voting is completely broken. Rick would have never been "chosen" by voters were it not for the Obama machine putting him on the media push to take Newt out...as the alternative to Romney who the voters made clear they do not want....unfortunately the same republican voters that gave us Carter and others like him still can't tell when they are baited.
....he has a temper that’s well known to those who have worked with him.
You don’t know anyone who knows him, caww, so stop trying to lie..
I do..and what he is known for is being a wonderful person.
Romney is the one with the temper as is your guy Newt.
And even if Rick did get mad a few times on the trail, so what? You might get angry too if you were vilified like he has been repeatedly.
70% of those interviewed thought Rick’s run in with the NY Slimes reporter was great! I was right there and it was.
We are going to see more and more of this "back door" support for Romney, so let your doubts be known. FReepmail the boss with the URL for the posts. IT WORKS!
You calling me a liar?.... Pretty underhanded since I am from Pa..... born and raised here...lived in Allegeny County, Bradford County...Butler County...Chemung County...Lancaster County..Columbia County....Luzerene County....to name a few.....and am a few miles from where Rickie was raised, which by the way it isn't Pittsburgh which he always misleads people to believe. Never can tell who you run into along the way...especially when you're involved with the local and regional politics.
We'll just leave it at that.... Enough to say once again....those who know Rick Know Rickie.
Hey Mitt, is that you?
I agree with you 100% on that.
Romney got a bump from his last wins. I don’t see it holding.
