On March 17th, three white men were leaving an Applebees restaurant after midnight in Seneca, South Carolina. One of the men, Terry Moore, 32, of Macon County, NC, went to the bathroom while his two friends went straight to their car. When Moore walked to the car alone, he encountered between 15 and 20 black men. The men allegedly yelled racial slurs at him like "tree honkey" and "cracker," then brutally attacked him.
Moore's friends say that he was zapped with a tazer and then stomped on after he fell to the crowd. The victim suffered several serious head injuries including a fractured eye socket and a dislocated jaw.

Seneca police, working with the county sheriff's department and SLED, has apprehended six of the suspects. They are facing state charges for assault and battery by a mob, which is also more commonly known as second degree lynching in South Carolina.

Situational awareness is even more important on a bike as when walking. If I'm not going to walk close to a bunch of thugs, I'm not going to bike close to them either. And you can steer the bike with one hand while the other reaches for your sidearm if you suddenly notice a bunch heading for you on an intercept course.

Modern taser darts don't necessarily need to penetrate to the skin in order to deliver an incapacitating shock.
There's actually a company which sells taser-protective vests, but only to law enforcement. The vest works by "providing a highly conductive specialized layer of fabric ensuring the electrical current conducts through the fabric versus your body".
I'm wondering if chainmail would make a comeback, protecting against both edged weapons and (being conductive metal) against taser.
I disagree. Black women don't need black men economically, but they do need them for protection from OTHER urban males.
A single woman in the inner city is prey unless she has somebody willing to protect her. Hence the attraction for thug types. This also produces an incentive for having lots of kids and raising them as thugs, on the idea that one or two will grow up able and willing to protect mom and grandma, or (for daughters) be able to attract gangsta types willing to protect the girl's mom as well as the girl.
Speaking as a long-running home-schooler, I heartily agree with you.
What will probably ignite a conflict: mob decides to attack people randomly, as in the Philly wildings or Wisc State Fair. They attack a CCW who drops three or four, leading to a general firefight between CCWs in the crowd versus thugs.

I've homeschooled all three of my kids, with two of them making very successful transitions to college, and the third one coming along. These days there's lots of software and online material that homeschooling parents can use.

Per the time line of events, ABC news had started putting out stuff about the event on March 16. Doing a google news search over the range up to March 16, there were 63,400 news articles about Trayvon, and he was likely a hot topic in those news outlets catering to the black community.
If there was a significaant number of white teens playing "knockout game" against black men, the MSM would be talking about it 24/7, particularly since Holder and Obama would have federalized the National Guard in all the states to track down anybody involved.
