Long-time conservative activist Richard Viguerie suggested today that Newt Gingrich suspend his campaign and endorse Rick Santorum in order to unite conservatives against Mitt Romney.
"Looking at last night’s numbers, it has become increasing clear that the former Speaker can either be a kingmaker or a spoiler," Viguerie said in a statement today, "because, to unite conservatives, Gingrich would have to suspend his campaign and endorse Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination for President." Viguerie argued that Romney must lose the nomination in order to prevent "the debacle of four more years of an Obama presidency."

Newt’s going to take the next 2 primary states. Gee, will you say get out Santo? LoL.
Santorum needs to drop out. Winning a few primaries in Southern states isn’t the same as being able to beat Obama in the general.
Gingrich can do it, Santorum and Romney cannot.
Perry did the classy thing when it was clear he couldn’t win. But Newt won’t. His ego won’t allow it.

Whenever someone tells me Santorum can’t beat Obama, I always require proof.
So please tell me which state McCain carried in 2008 that Santorum would lose and Obama would pick up in 2012.
Also, the Dems are writing off IN anc NC this year. Add Marco Rubio to the ticket along with the GOP convention and FL is looking good.
But Santorum did do something extraordinary in OH yesterday that prooves his General Election strength. Normally in a General, it takes the whole state of OH for the Republican to offset the margins in Cuyahoga County alone to win the state. If they have defeciencies anywhere else in the state, such as McCain did, winning OH is near impossible. Outside Cleveland, McCain and Obama were essentially tied throughout OH, whereas Bush ran up a 370,000 vote cushion.
And yesterday, Santorum nearly won the state despite huge deficits in not just Cleveland, but Cincy as well. This means he ran exceptionally well throughout the conservative areas of OH, so much so, that his margins against Obama in OH outside of Cleveland might approach 350,000 like Bush in 2004. This is a big thing and something I didn’t recognize unitl this afternoon.
With OH, FL, IN, NC, and VA all looking good for Santorum, I give him a strong edge to find one more state to win the Election (PA, WI, IA, NM, CO)
But what do I know? I just study voting numbers and demographics?
Why would Newt drop out after last night?
You DO realise that Santorum only won six more delegates than Gingrich, right? (85 vs. 79)
Plus, Republican-rich Alabama and Mississippi are the next primaries, and Gingrich should do right well in them.
Ask Hillary that too, about that correlation of yours.
We are not AT our convention yet. We are busy watching Rick win states and not pledged delegates.

Look, things may change but whining with unpledged delegates for the other guy who leads with pledged delgates to get out of the race is upside down, until which time the South gets to pack Rick up and send him back to his UNION favoring legislative record.
Maybe they won’t do that. Maybe the South will be favorable to a pro-union guy like Santorum. Maybe they will buy into his curiously convenient timing to reallign with his Church where he says he was a nominal Catholic until until PA cammpaign began. Cool.
Buy it. But his record squeaks.
Rick and Mitt need to get to work and stop all this whining.
Don't bank on it. Winning conservative Republicans in an area is not the same thing as winning the area. The Republicans in an area can be out-of-step with the general run of their counties, and in OH this would especially be the case with the smaller Rust Beltish areas like Akron, Dayton, etc. that Santorum did well in. Winning an area in the primary doesn't necessarily translate into doing well there in the general.

Santorum is spending over $1 Million in my state (Mississippi) and another $1 Million in Alabama this week.
He’s really trying to get out the Evangelical vote to beat Newt Gingrich, who would ordinarily win on economic issues and leadership.
that’s ironic. Because somehow, I suspect that’s exactly what the Government Agent will say to you when they hand you a “pain pill” courtesy of Obamacare. Let me know how they work because by the time I finally get one, they will probably be rationing those off too.
I'm not going to vote for Romney; that's a given. I'm not going to vote for Santorum because he has lied about Newt Gingrich plus he can't win in the general election against Obama. For President, I'm eiher voting for Gingrich or, if he doesn't get enough delegaes, I'm writing in Sarah Palin.
Rick has promised to repeal Obamacare, but he will either only partially repeal it or replace it with another government program. Rick is a big government guy that sees the free market as flawed, and dislikes individualism.
I'm with you, except for one big thing - I'm not planning on wasting my vote writing in somebody who isn't running, and isn't going to run.
Instead, if Romney wins the nomination, I'm thinking it's time for conservatives to get serious and think about replacing the GOP with something else.
Self-described conservatives consistently poll 40-43% in these yearly polls about political ideology? And you can be sure that at least a portion of the 35% self-identifying as "moderate" are really libertarian-types who know they're not necessarily "conservatives" but have no other option to choose from in the poll.
Have you ever asked yourself why, this being the case, do we constantly get stuck with these RINOs who hate us and what we believe in? And isn't about time we stop playing the game, and invent a new game of our own?
Newt just gave Rick Santorum a tutorial on delegates.
Rick just realized he should have split with some cash in Ohio to claim those 7000 votes Romney rammed down his throat.
He will be making up for his rudimentary mistakes in Alabama and Mississippi, trying to drowned out all that pro-union legislation of his, and do it with religion.
Why would anyone find that offensive? /s
You know, Newt has still not taken Rick down. The strategic genius of the three has a reason.
I believe it has to be to get us all to the damn convention, if we don’t toss someone out first, blow the entire effort and hand off to Romney.
What do you guys think? Newt can hang that union affinity of Rick’s around his neck in the South, but doesn’t. At least....yet.
