Pat Buchanan Oddly Thinks Israel is a Bigger Threat Than Iran
Yahoo! News Contributor Network ^ | February 22, 2012 | Mark Whittington

Posted on 02/22/2012 4:19:15 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Pat Buchanan, the columnist, author, and until recently MSNBC's token right-winger, garnered a lot of sympathy when he was fired from his job at the left-leaning news network apparently because of a book he wrote.

Too bad, as reported in the Daily Caller, Buchanan had to ruin things by articulating how obnoxious his views really are. In essence, he suggested that Israel with its 300 estimated nuclear weapons was a bigger threat to the United States than is Iran with its nuclear program on Russian television.

Buchanan went on about how his favorite Jewish conspiracy, which he called the "neocons," is itching for war with Iran, for no good reason according to him.

Mind, by Buchanan's logic, Great Britain and France are really big threats, owing to the fact that they have nuclear arsenals as well.

Buchanan makes a common mistake that other people such as Ron Paul have made to equate Iran having nuclear weapons to the old Soviet Union having nuclear weapons. The Soviet Union during the Cold War, just as Iran is today, was run by murderers and thugs. Yet the Soviets did not launch a nuclear strike at the United States because it knew that the USSR would have been annihilated by the retaliation attack. By that logic, Israel's nuclear arsenal would provide a sufficient deterrent against Iran using whatever nuclear weapons it acquires.

Only it won't. Unlike the leaders of the old Soviet Union, the rulers of the Iranian theocracy do not care if their country is destroyed in a nuclear war. For the rulers of Iran, a nuclear strike on Israel would be the ultimate suicide bombing....

What is with this guy? When he was on MSNBC, he was sympathetic to Sarah Palin and so many other women conservatives, but he's completely nuts on Jews and Israel.

I think the headline was supposed to be: “Pat Buchanan Oddly Thinks”.

300?

I thought Carter outed them as having only 150.

Don't agree with most of what Buchanan said, but when he suggested Isreal is a more of a threat he may have meant a threat to Iran.

Which I would also disagree with.

I’m sure he’ll say more controversial things now that he’s off of MSNBC. I know he always attack Israel while he worked there though. Maybe Fox News will hire him.

I think this is an excellent teachable moment. It provides some insight into how people like Buchanan and Paul think. They lack analytical skills and have little common sense. They are rules-based. Since 300 > 5 (or whatever Iran is about to have) they compute that Israel is a greater threat.

He's got that right.
On the flip side, is if the Muslims get atomic weaponry and don't use it on Israel, or us Infidels, they are going to hell. - tom

The headline can be punctuated by a period after the word “thinks.”

In a way Buchanan is right but only if you’re a muslim.

Israel’s not-so-secret Mutually Assured Destruction policy with the muzzies is that if one or more Israeli cities is subjected to an attempted or successful nuclear attack then Israel will respond by annihilating some 214 muslim population centers.

This is why you have Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab world curiously silent on the topic of Israel preemptively striking Iran’s nuclear capabilities. They *want* Israel to hit Iran because they know Iran absolutely will trigger Israel’s MAD policy.

I can’t say that I would mind.

Pat has never liked the Joos. He’s a kook. Like a broken clock he’s right twice a day. This isn’t one of those times.

Can someone explain how the USA benefits from from its relationship with Isreal? Why would we want to get in a war with Iran for Isreal?

I don’t think Pat has a problem with Jews or Isreal, he does have a problem with the USA acting against what he believes are its own interests. USA’s and Isreal’s interests are not in the same.

Until Mr. Obama unilaterally disarms us, one Trident missile submarine can destroy 192 cities. We have 14 such submarines, plus 4 conversions to guided missiles.

I really don’t care what the lying MSM calls Pat Buchanan because they are mostly manipulative liberal propagandists working to divide us.

To be honest I like Pat Buchanan because he, just like Lou Dobbs is one the few USA patriots still left in the MSM that supports defending USA borders and USA industry first.

Most of these MSM traitors support putting the USA interests somewhere between 2nd or 4th place. If the USA goes to war it must be in only our USA interest first.

Allow me to define Patriot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot and it does not represent the MSM.

Pat Buchanan won the New Hampshire debate and looked like a good conservative candidate, but then he crashed and burned and we got stuck with Bob Dole. For a little while, I supported Pat, but then it became evident that he really was—and apparently still is—antisemitic.

Another kook, I’m afraid.

I will explain it so that even an admirer of “Pat” could understand it.

That is a dangerous region of the world. We have only one friend in that region. We appear as if we keep them on a short leash, and threaten that if things don't go as we wish them to, we might remove the leash.

USA directly benefited from Iraq not having a nuclear bomb or bombs - and that was a direct result of Israel and our support of Israel.

Supporting Israel is in the short and long term interest of these United States. It is not a Jewish conspiracy - it is the real world situation.
