Complete agreement; this guy sounds like a moron. Where do you suppose his daughter learned impulse control? I would also be curious as to who owned the laptop. Even if the father had given it to her, it doesn't give him the right to destroy it. It wouldn't be shocking to see CPS show up at this guy's house - if he feels the need to take his aggression out on a computer because of this, what's he going to do when the girl comes home with bad grades, an unacceptable boyfriend, or an unintended pregnancy?

It is easy to see where his daughter gets her "Grandstanding" from.
Was he pissed at her rebellion or that people on Facebook might think he was a bad dad?

He clearly doesn’t have the skills to be an effective parent, so he resorts to throwing a tantrum like a child. It is laughable. His daughter wrote a very thoughtful and well-constructed personal letter that he had no business making public. This shows total disrespect. If he wants respect, he has to show and teach respect. Responding like a 3 year old with a gun is just being stupid. I think the parents in this family are probably slobs and the daughter is pointing out that they aren’t doing their part to properly function as a family.

Even if the father had given it to her, it doesn't give him the right to destroy it.Um, yes it does. She's a minor child and he is her parent. If she had, as he suggested, gone out to get a job and had earned the money for the laptop herself, you might have a case, but she got the laptop from him and then he spent six hours as an IT professional and $130 of his own money upgrading it for her. And then she objects to doing chores around the house? Ungrateful little cow!
You're missing something. The dad clearly states that they have been through this before, she rebelled and posted foolish, insulting things about her parents before and was warned that the consequences would be very serious if she did it again. Well, she did it again. This is the very serious consequence.
What on earth made her think she had the right to sit on her hindquarters doing nothing except whining while her parents work all day to buy her luxuries? What made her think she could outsmart and insult her father online? Truly outrageous. Yes, since he can't legally lay a hand on her, an online whuppin' was due.
I'm just sad that an innocent laptop had to die. But at least this little demonstration with the ACP prevents months of nonstop whining to get it back. If she wants a new one, she's going to have to work.
Teenage girls are tough. Do you have any?

Yes, depending on how rebellious she is, as she has to do is say she is afraid of her father and CPS, will show up and maybe place her in a foster home. They may show up anyway.

Do you have kids, and if so, what age are they? Excellent question.
However I'd have to say Kirkwood does not have children. He actually thinks that the daughter wrote "a very thoughtful and well-constructed personal letter."
All she did in that letter was throw a verbal tantrum--complain about chores, and demanded to get paid for what is her normal duty as a member of a family. She decided that any job taking care of the house belonged to "the cleaning lady" or someone else, and she shouldn't be bothered with it.
If that had been written by one of my children, they wouldn't get off so lightly.
