Look to your preps. First aide supplies are cheap and available now, but will disappear fast should SHTF.

I’m not sure what the deal is but my kids seem to make band aids disappear like my wife makes toilet paper disappear. Seems like I always have to buy more. Thanks

Add a 1.5% solution of boric acid. Put in a small spray bottle. Very antiseptic plus it clots blood real fast, forms a crystalline scab. Ammonia for insect bites (stops itching) and spray adhesive for large scrapes.

Could you pleased add me to the “feces impacts the rotating blades” list?

Also, what kind of antibiotic ointment would you recommend? Most of what I see has a shelf life. Is there anything that would last years?

Colloidal silver is a broad-spectrum germicide which is proven to kill more than 650 pathogens. Easy to purchase, but you can make your own for pennies.

Could be quite handy.

I've heard that fish antibiotics (Fish-mox, etc.) can be substituted for prescription antibiotics in an emergency situation. I've checked several aquarium stores locally, however, and none of them carry these antibiotics.

Does anyone on this board have experience with such things? Is it possible to get these antibiotics at an aquarium store? Is it an online only thing? Is it even true that they are a viable substitute for prescription antibiotics?

I have been into survivalism for more than 40 years, and I was glad to see the word prepper come into use but now I’m supposed to use the word “shit”, and mainstream that word into everyday conversation and even internet print and formal use, as a conservative?

Povidone Iodine. Mix 1/10 with water to flush all wounds.
A must for every med kit.

an old family antiseptic for dealing with infections is made from something we’ve always called “cheeseweed.” Simply boil the leaves and stems as if you were using them to make tea. Then soak the infected area in this stuff while the water is still as hot as you can handle it. The more times that you re-boil the stems and leaves, and the slimier the solution becomes, the more effective it is. My grandad has also used this to draw out blood poisoning from a wound in his hand that had already advanced all the way to his shoulder.

Thanks for the heads up. If you don’t get stitches within 8 hours, the wound will fill with bacteria and you’ll get lockjaw and you’ll be like a pit bull ‘cause they’ll need like pliers to get your mouth open and you’ll die a horrible death and people at your funeral will say, “Man, he looks like sh!t!”

Where to get tetanus shots??

I’ve got first aid stuff, use it often. My own versions, that is. I make my own bandages from folded flannel and adhesive tape or even masking tape as necessary. I use my own anti biotic stuff too. But you gotta have something. Cuts and other seemingly small wounds can go septic and cause systemic infection or even death.

Years ago I cleared the shelves of all the bandages in my small town to patch up a horse. I felt a little funny about that. I now keep my own stock and will not have to do that again.
A question I have been wanting to ask you. Is the government still buying freeze dried food at the same high rates as previously. Any increase in government first aid supplies? Thanks

Two things to make sure you always have in your first aid supplies: Sulfa powder and gentian violet.

I’ve got plenty of bees making honey for dressing too. But, you have to have the supplies you’ve listed.

There is a little more treating lacerations and putting on band aids. You need to know when to close and when not to and a lot more.
