...Well make that decision on Saturday, [Perry] said on ABCs This Week. Its our intention to win SouthCarolina and go forward from there. But to try to plan out your campaign months in advance, I think is a little bit of a stretch. The governor, who trailed in the Iowa caucuses and in the NewHampshire primary, said Sunday that his service in the AirForce will play well with the Palmetto States large veterans population. He has also tried to gain votes by attacking front-runner MittRomney as a vulture capitalist, a phrase that conservative commentators say sounds like an attack on free enterprise. Mr.Perry said he disagrees.
This is not something we knew wasnt coming up, he said. Its better to be talking about it here in January in SouthCarolina than it is in October.
Also on Sunday morning, RickSantorum sought to build on some recent momentum, including new support from conservative Christian groups, saying he will beat Mr. Romney for the Republican nomination once all the other candidates drop out. Speaking on Fox News Sunday and CBSs FacetheNation, Mr.Santorum said that he wont drop out after SouthCarolina and said that race is all about whittling down the field to just him and Mr. Romney.
In a contest with just Mr. Romney, Id win, Mr. Santorum said on Fox..
Mr.Santorum declined to ask his chief rivals for the conservative vote to drop out of the race. But he said that he is better qualified and more conservative than both former Speaker Newt Gingrich and Mr. Perry. Mr. Santorum took aim at Mr. Gingrich, who is beating him in many polls. On both shows, Mr. Santorum noted that when Mr. Gingrich was speaker of the House, he faced a coup by rank-and-file Republicans who did not think that Mr.Gingrich was conservative enough....

And Rick Santorum endorsed Mitt Romney in 2008.
Perry may well be the lessor of evils, yet to prove himself as much more—I don’t know—but wait-n-see!

I was trying to tweak Cincinnatus’ Wife, not you.
“FU Rick Santorum.”
We’re getting mad. :)
And Rick Perry endorsed Rudy Giuliani in 2008.
“For some reason...”
1. The media mercilessly played up Perry’s “gaffes” from the get-go; the media practically ignores (for now) Romney’s gaffes. (he made two this past week as bad as any of Perry’s).
2. It’s partly a money matter. Perry’s money is less than Romney’s and Perry’s SuperPac is small, and hence must spend it’s money on pro-Perry ads - not anti-Romney ads. Gingrich SuperPac is the only one spending on anti-Romney ads.
3. I really doubt that voters are forgetting that whole Bush/Texas/Governor/Air Force similarity thing.
I honestly think the GOP-E is in the bag for Romney because he has the most money to spend against Obama, and his donors are all financial institutions. The political whores are going for the cash, what a surprise.
Wow! Do certain FReepers know about this? Isn't this an automatic disqualifier? Is his new name Ricardo? Is he now voted for by illegal aliens? Just curious. Wow. Get out, Santorum. You were nowhere until Sarah uttered a few kind words.
The Perrywinkles believing someone who got 5th in IA and 6th in NH and is currently polling dead last in SC can “come back” in less than a week is adorable.
It’s a win~win for us Texans. I like Perry but if the powers that be decide against him (it will be decided before the primary reaches Texas), we get our Damn good Govenor back or David Dewherst (Lt. Gov), as I said it’s a win~win for Texans.
“The Perrywinkles believing someone who got 5th in IA and 6th in NH and is currently polling dead last in SC can come back in less than a week is adorable.”
Not unlike Indianapolis Colts fans betting that their team is going to the Super Bowl.
Gov Perry has never won a DEBATE or lost an ELECTION!
I understand Perry had raised a lot of money. I do agree that the media hammered him.
I have always assumed you know more about Texas politics that I do thus have nailed one of the anti Perry factors. Rove is not liked by conservatives I view him more as an expert to whom one listens to because of his expertise. One does not nessarily allow oneself to be persuaded by his pronouncements.
I know you were addressing her; hope you don’t mind me chiming in.
“Not remembering your talking point does not help. I like the man, but he is ripe for ridicule. I also believe that the independents do not want another Texan.”
I agree.
LOL...nice!
Bravo for Perry. How did McCain work out for you?
Thompson gave it a half hearted try. Huckabee was not Perry's style. McCain told us not to worry about obama. Romney, well he is Romney. Giuliani could have given obama troubles in the debates.
I orignally knew little about Gov. Perry- but, and was one of the 35% who initially supported him based on what I read about him after he announced.
I admire the fact that he is taking the fight to Romney- unlike some others, who seem to be carrying GOP Establishment water.
But, after watching him for the last few months, my honest impression- Gov. Perry seems like a kid who really didn’t want to go out for the football team, but had an oppressive dad who forced him to.
I wish Gov. Perry luck. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about him-— just seems he didn’t have his heart in it this time around- but has been coerced by whatever vested monied interests to compete.
