The erosion of merit and fairness in the administration of our Military Forces took another big hit last Friday with the Navys kid gloves decision to allow Captain Holly Graf to retire in rank rather than be punished for striking a subordinate.
Physical attacks by any person in our military are never to be tolerated especially when a Commanding Officer is the perpetrator.
Last month Captain Graf, (whose sexual orientation is regularly questioned in military news websites), was brought before a Board of inquiry to face serious charges.
She was called to explain why, as Commanding Officer of the USS Cowpens she ordered her crew to engage in a drag race with another Naval vessel putting the personnel on both ships in danger.
She also had to explain why she threw objects at several of her male subordinates, placed an enlisted man in a time out directing him to stand alone in an empty room and worse still trying to choke another officer serving with her on the Cowpens.
Grafs career was a classic military foray into political correctness gone totally wrong. She was a loaded P.R. bomb waiting to explode and embarrass the Navy, and she has done exactly that.
She was supposed to prove that women could command naval .make the Navy seem forward looking.
What was worse about the Graf case is that the Navy wanted to promote her to Rear Admiral even after these charges were brought. The Navy did not want to let go of its perfect P.C/P.R plan to make Holly Graf an Admiral putting her at the same rank as her sister Robin.
Officers cant walk away from charges like the ones Captain Holly Garf just did, yet she did.
All of this begs for answers

It’s only allowed when the C.O. is Wayne Brady.
I read that she got a “general discharge”. That’s not exactly “kid gloves”. It allowed her to retire in grade, but that’s about it.
She will probably run for Congress soon.

is one of the charges? A friend of mine in the Navy in the early '80s said years ago that they had a drag race with a carrier on the way to Subic bay I think. He was serving on the other ship who took the initial lead and then the next morning they saw the carrier catch up and pass them.
So, that's not exactly the first time that's happened.
Should this happen in our nuclear ballistic missile sub portion of the nuclear triad, our country's safety would be directly threatened.
It is high time we stop letting hollywood and the PC social engineers re-structure our military the way they think it should be, and not based on the only measure--- efficacy of the "point of the spear" for the main purpose of the military: to defend our country whenever, wherever.
Homosexuals who’ve broken through to command rank are an especially protected political class.
Our congress critters make it clear they are not to be messed with, for fear of retribution. To their service sector, via funding, and to the command ranks in the Pentagon.
That’s why 4 star’s don’t tell Senators to shove it, when the Senator is wrong.
Whew! I thought this “drag race” was about requiring the men of the ship to dress in women’s clothes. Wouldn’t surprise me if she is a lesbian.
I beg to differ. Should’ve thrown her ass overboard.
.
I’m kinda surprised myself that there wasn’t enough testicular fortitude on the ship that her conduct would have earned her swimming lesson doing the dead man’s float.
That is funny and the article said that military websites regularly question her sexuality. Any pics?
In Obama’s navy Testicular Fortitude is a hate crime.
I guess I am just your average red neck male chauvinist pig.
It is my belief that men and women should not be serving together in the first place ,that the male and female services should be separated and that no woman should be placed in charge of men on board a ship or anywhere else for that matter.
I know that isn’t PC today, but I am too old to change.
“placed an enlisted man in a time out directing him to stand alone in an empty room”
IIRC, that enlisted man was a Master Chief.
As for the punishment...well, I can only speak as a civilian. The most important thing, it seems to me, is that Graf will no longer be commanding a U.S. warship. Not everyone is suited for the big chair, and Graf certainly appears to have been one of the ones who wasn’t.
The Navy is basically saying what she did is okay.
I agree with you, Venturer.
isn’t she able to wait a bit, appeal, and recieve full retirement benefits if not better discharge?
