A Series Of Unfortunate Events at Fukushima Daiichi

There have been a number of odd happenings recently at the plant. What they all mean right now is not totally clear.

On January 2nd, the day after the widespread new years quake, the radioactive fallout levels in Fukushima and also in Chiba spiked. A weird white ash was reported by some in Chiba, no word if this is related in any way.

On January 6th the cesium levels detected leaking out of unit 3′s intake canal tripled in one day.

We still have no explanation for the rush of police cars, fire engines and two buses of workers to Daiichi on January 6th (Japan time). Checks of TEPCO’s plant status reports say nothing of an incident at the plant and nothing has been reported out of those who watch the press conferences.

There have also been a series of shallow quakes in the region of the power plant since the first of the year.

Also, videos at the blog post below are very interesting. The first sped up video (poor quality) appears to show a platform and bus arrive at Reactor 4. The platform raises and a small group of workers walk around the top of the spent fuel pool floor. Then the platform raises to the floor above the spent fuel and a lot of workers climb up to that floor and scurry about. Very dangerous work. The second video shows a street leading to Fukushima where the bus of workers drives to the Fukushima plant (second part of video).

Any speculation about all this ? There had turned off the spent fuel pool water addition for reactor #3 over New Years due to clogged filters. That was supposed to be fixed a day or two before this activity. This new activity is on unit #4.

Here is a list of the first series of small earthquakes that occurred relatively close to Fukushima a few days after New Years. This was also a couple of days after the big earthquake that occurred south of Japan. Here is the recent series of quakes since December 30th.

Small quake before big New Years quake.
M4.8 – Near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan

Big New Years Quake south of Japan.
M6.8 – Izu Islands, Japan Region

Small quake after first close to Fukushima.
M4.5 – Near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan

Small quake Jan 5th close to Fukushima.
M5.0 – Near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan

Another small quake close to Fukushima Jan 5th.
M4.9 – Near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan

Then this small one occurred.

Another small one offshore near Fukushima.
M4.9 – Near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan

Then on the 7th we had this one.

Followed by this one.

Then this one.

During this time frame there were also a few much smaller quakes that occurred closer to Fukushima that were below a magnitude of [4.5].

Ok, so is anyone else worried about this as much as I am?

They cannot get it under control and things are getting worse. It seems even earthquakes are getting worse there.

And the Japanese are not being honest and open about what is actually going on. This has the potential to contaminate the entire world and needs to be gotten under control.

First thought that maybe during times of extreme weak solar activity, there could be more quakes. Simply due to a weak solar wind. Less wind means less pressure on the earth as it travels about. We are now in a solar maximum though or at least some moderate to strong activity. However, it has been reported that solar wind is still weak. That theory however is on shaky ground, no pun intended.

The other possibility is that as the solar system travels through the galactic plane, perhaps there is increased turbulence traveling through the galactic plane space. However that theory is also way out there. Perhaps the solar system experiences stronger galactic gravitational forces as it travels though the galactic plane ? When exactly are we supposed to be traveling through the galactic plane ?

Latest timeline is 40 years until they have fully contained and cleaned up the area and that appears to be a pipe dream. So at least we need a nice and calm earth with no quakes, but that is impossible since we should expect many aftershocks after the big one that spawned the record Tsunami.

Nuclear power is pure insanity. The media does not cover what is going on because they are owned by the same companies that built, operate, or own these plants. There is a lot of information on the internet about what is still going on. They are finding lots of radiation everywhere in Japan. Very dangerous food is being consumed before it is discovered to be dangerous. Soil, sea, and forests are contaminated. Even sewage is contaminated. And new building supplies. The powers to be do the best they can to cover it all up.

Now this is just from one plant. And mind you such a disaster could happen at any plant, and quite possibly at more than one plant at once anywhere in the world.

Think of a natural disaster such as a meteor or super volcano. And imagine what would happen at these plants in the aftermath. Or imagine a war destroying the infrastructure needed to keep these plants from going boom. Remember that you can’t just shut these things down and walk away. They have to be cooled for a long time before you can even remove the fuel. So even if you loose power for an extended time, or you loose personnel. If you can’t keep the whole ball of wax going for any reason then these things go boom. And this does not even include direct attacks on a plant. Just insanity.

And how does that address the topic of this thread ? Are you spamming ? Did you know that the US Military on Japan was given SPEEDI info the day after the accident occurred ? Why did they not tell US citizens exactly what was going on ? The US government however did recommend a much larger evacuation zone then the Japanese government recommended.

It is a major cluster puck over there. They have not evacuated people living in areas that the Japanese government itself admits have higher radiation readings then areas the Soviets evacuated during Chernobyl. Imagine that. The Japanese government is less protective of their people then the Soviets were. And the US government would be no better then the Japanese.

If you cannot see the insanity then your brain does not function. If several of these exploded all at once due to some natural calamity then the whole world would be unfit to live in. As far as how many people having died. The beauty for people like you is that while the science of what happens when exposed to radiation clearly indicates that it causes health problems or death....The beauty for people like you is that you can claim that every death that happens was not caused by radiation. Since the effect is not instantaneous in this case then you can claim it does not exist. Science however says that you are wrong.

There are stories of people getting sick in Japan, and the US. and there are stories of people having died from radiation. Their are reports of a large sample of children with thyroid problems from this. But if you think that the government or the nuclear power industry is going to come out and advertise it, then your just gullible.

I don’t have to prove that someone didn’t die of radiation...hysterical people making wild and ignorant claims do. That’s how science works.

BTW, the answer to my question is ZERO! Despite all reports that workers in the immediate aftermath of the disaster received very high levels of direct exposure to radiation and contamination (there is a big difference), and despite claims that some of those said workers would surely die quickly from acute high radiation exposure, non have. I’m not saying there won’t be some deaths, but thus far all the dire predictions have been wrong. I expect the same to be true over the long term.

Yes, some people MAY suffer effects from increased exposure from this incident (we ALL are exposed to radiation, every minute of every day of our lives), but that does not necessarily correlate to people dying of said exposure.

Radiation can cause thyroid problems in children, HOWEVER, this is very treatable and almost never fatal.

But hey, my brain must not be functioning....must be from all the years I spent working on and operating a nuclear power plant...

One thing is for sure. You are inhumane and have no ability to feel for the people who will suffer from this. You make it clear that they are all just numbers and statistics to you. All good as long as you can keep your job.
