I like his point about people not being willing to give up privacy for security, until someone dies.
I also agree that small groups of people (15-20) are probably the best model. There are just so many variables to consider that it seems impossible.

(I could eat it raw, but why do that when I have a fire.)

Read the article, I like his responses, and I understand where he is coming from.
But do not agree that a suburban location is more difficult to defend than an urban one.
Houses are close enough to provide interlocking fire, and as long as you don't live in one of those "Mcmansions" the smaller house size is easier to defend on its own with two or three people.
Besides, in the suburbs one doesn't have to worry about taking fire from a hihher location (nothing over two stories, most only one story in my neighborhood).

Don’t overlook the role of a church family. For those who have been away a long time, things have changed. You can find a bible-believing community that is spiritually sound, but which gathers and worships in all kinds of less formal ways than in years past.
The bottom line is that there is a church family out there that will be right for you. And that can end up being REAL family, better than ever.
