During the 2010 and 2011 summers, I was a cashier at Wal-Mart #1788 in Scarborough, Maine. I spent hours upon hours toiling away at a register, scanning, bagging, and dealing with questionable clientele. These were all expected parts of the job, and I was okay with it. What I didnt expect to be part of my job at Wal-Mart was to witness massive amounts of welfare fraud and abuse.

Of ourse they were. SOP
Got none, but a new start would certainly be a good thing.
Ain’t got one, and ain’t my task...just lookin’ for one.
Doesn’t Maine take in a lot of refugees from Somalia?
Several times I have been out shopping with the fam and noticed that everyone in line in front of us was paying with an EBT (welfare) card.
At the dollar store last week, the lady in front of me bought a huge pile of Little Princess birthday party decorations, plates, cups, etc. with her “food stamp” card.
At Wal-Mart yesterday, the lady in front of me bought a $69.00 toy with her EBT card.
And none of these people even said thanks!
No representation without taxation!
Walter Williams had a proposal that was something like everyone gets a vote, but people who pay taxes get two votes.
Most people assume that it’s the bad economy that has led to the record number of people on food stamps.
However, a big contributor was the fact that Obamacare had a provision snuck into it that greatly increased the number of people eligible for food stamps.
So Obama deliberately set out to become the Food Stamp President.
I am getting to that point as well. I “gave at the office” already.
And I have been involved with charities, especially for kids, and seen how often they are ungrateful for the toys and clothes they are given, and how really the rest of us have gifted them with stuff all year long, so it’s no big deal to them.
Once you take the check, you are off the rolls automatically.
But, better to get rid of the hand outs for those that really don’t need them.
Wouldn't you honestly be happier down at your local Occupy camp than here among the right-wing Neanderthals?
The overwhelming preponderance of anecdotes here points to a system that is being looted on a vast scale by a huge class of professional moochers and parasites.
The drastic solutions (complete privatization of all benefits, loss of the franchise for food stamp recipients, etc.) that seem to horrify you are mild compared to what will happen when the whole welfare bubble pops.
I wasn’t going to respond to this, but I’ve got to.
Ben — BS!
The reason Social Security is running out of money isn’t because of the people who worked their ASSES off, it’s because of the Government taking money away from SS to pay for their pet projects, and giving money to other countries so we can make them “friends”
The Government left huge stacks of IOU’s. So, get your facts straight.
Rant over. And no, I’m not on SS, I’m one of those busting my butt for my parents.
The price of accepting an EBT card should be, you can’t vote.
In otherwords, just stirring the pot by being purposely obtuse.
Well FRiend, there’s nothing keeping you from sending more money to welfare recipients, is there?
Most criminals are on welfare anyway. End welfare and hang criminals. Problem solved.
The program was put in when the ratio of workers to those collecting was 10:1.
That ratio will soon be 2:1, and in 20 years, 1.5:1
So yeah, total ‘BS’. Truth hurts.
The system is unsustainable and needs to be dumped ASAP.
I agree, which is why we absolutely must throw those who do not “truly need” off the welfare rolls. Forever.
Our EBT cards are used transfer child support money, too. Since they are both processed the same at the register, there would be no way for someone else to know what the actual funds were from except that food stamps won’t pay for non-food items.
