Romney Claims Tough Times In France

In light of his cavalier attempt to wager $10,000 during the most recent GOP presidential debate, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is trying to counter the claim that he is out of touch with most Americans by relating stories of traveling in Europe as a young man. In New Hampshire on Sunday, Mr. Romney spoke of his experience as a 19 year old Mormon missionary in France; living on $110 a month which he said was the equivalent of $500 or $600 in today's dollars. "You're not living high on the hog at that level," he said.

I don’t care if he’s rich. Heck, wealth and success are part of the American dream, IMO. He’s just such a dork about it. Next thing you know he’ll be saying the rich should pay more in taxes. What a putz.

Why do you keep supporting Romney on Free Republic?

If I am mistaken, then here is a post for your site.

Ineligible backstabber:
"I bet you $10,000 that my saboteurs are better than yours."

The Palmetto Scoop reported:
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney's former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Poor sport spoiler Romney doing what he does best:

Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"

Said Novak: "The rumors were traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson
."

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

$500 or $600 in today’s dollars

That is a lot for LDS missions (and I strongly suspect he got funneled more) b/c his uncle was a General Authority (Mormon leadership). Most LDS missionaries get by on about half that.

When they come tracting, I always invite them in for dinner, it gets tiring living off of top ramen.

So,...as a Mormon missionary he had to make sacrifices? And now he’s complaining about those sacrifices? Yeah, it’s not easy becoming a god of your own planet.

Uhm, your not paying rent or full rent and getting a whole lot of other gimmees as well.

riding a bike or walking everywhere cuts down on expenses as well but when you need a car your host family generally provides one.

Like on nights when there is inclement weather and you have two appointments; one at 6 and another at 8.

Oh I dunno...

Wee Willie Mitty managed to live quite well in a mansion and in Paris, eating regularly and fine, and driving a top-of-the-line Citroen DS

Free medical, travel, etc...

That #110 pocket money would have gone further in 1966-68 also

Most American boys would have loved to have had $110 to play with...

The American boys fighting and dying in the jungles of Vietnam were not paid $110 a month for their sacrifices...

I think they got about $80

Wee Willie Mitty doesnt live in a real world...

My uncle, Alan Earl Harris (descendant of Martin Harris family) Was a Navy Corpsman in Vietnam. He did three tours on patrol with US Marine infantry units at places like Khe San. In spite of being seriously wounded three separate times, the meager living conditions and low pay, he never ONCE complained about being poor SERVING HIS COUNTRY while Mitt Romney DODGED THE DRAFT TO RECRUIT FOR HIS CULT IN PARIS !
