Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour seems to think so:
Q: Is it becoming clear that Mitt Romney will emerge as the Republican nominee?
A: I dont think its clear. I think people make the mistake of writing off Rick Perry and believe he cant come back. Hes got a mountain to get over, but I dont think its impossible. Both Newt and Romney have a lot of support, but I dont think its a two-man race. I think Perry could get back in it with Gingrich and Romney. I cant look you in the eye and say nobody else can come up. Youve got to learn your lesson this year not to say that about anybody."
-------
Coincidentally, this subject came up a day or so earlier on Twitter, in a conversation involving Allahpundit, blogger Karol Markowicz, fundraiser/adviser Nathan Wurtzel and me. AP, skeptical of a possible comeback, asked me what I thought Perry would have to do to get back into contention.
I think the first and most difficult step is for Perry to stop being a bad candidate. He has gotten a bit better under the radar, but needs to continue to improve.
If Perry does improve, he may stand a shot at placing third in the Iowa caucuses. The new Des Moines Register poll has Perry near the bottom at six percent, but the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points. PPP has a poll in the field in Iowa and teases that Perry appears to be in double digits.
The Register poll shows more respondents choose Gingrich as their second choice than any other candidate. However, Perry could benefit not only from Herman Cains collapse, but also from lingering doubts about Gingrich.
In Iowa, the doubts will primarily come from the religious right. In past cycles, social conservatives ensured victories for candidates like Pat Robertson and Mike Huckabee. This year, there is no consensus candidate.
Newt he of the serial infidelities and divorces bought himself some goodwill with some religious conservatives by pouring $150,000 into the successful 2010 campaign to oust three Iowa Supreme Court judges after the states high court struck down a state ban on same-sex marriage. But even that support has proved controversial among social cons in Iowa. And Newt probably did not help himself with them by telling Jake Tapper human life begins at implantation rather than conception.
Michelle Bachmann also hurt herself recently with this demographic by gaining access to the email database of a group of parents who homeschool their children in Iowa and sending them two unsolicited email blasts. Nor does there appear to be any groundswell in Iowa for Rick Santorum.
Perry seems to have figured all of this out; his latest ad is aimed squarely at religious conservatives. If Perry climbs back into third place (or at least ties it with Ron Paul) in Iowa, he has a shot at maintaining a viable campaign. There is the traditional spin about there being three tickets out of Iowa and Perry like Romney and Gingrich is blessed by his rivals. Conservative voters are looking for a viable NotRomney, and while they are currently flocking to Gingrich, all the polling suggests his support (like those for his rivals) remains soft.
NotRomney voters may also be looking for an insurance policy, given Gingrichs demonstrated propensity to implode. Indeed, Gingrich looked as though he had his final implosion just a few months ago. And if Newt can make a comeback, it is possible that Perry could do the same. But its not likely unless Perry continues to improve his campaign over the next month.
Why are you so scared of him, then?
If you weren’t, you’d pass this thread by.
I am hoping !
Okay, okay. You don’t dump on people and CW does.
I always liked Newt as a pet and he is fun to listen to, but he’s gotten so full of himself since he started leading the polls, he looks like he’s expecting.
I realized this morning that I am suddenly sick of Newt. Sick of seeing him, sick of hearing his voice.
I just suddenly got totally disenchanted with Newt. He doesn’t wear that well.
I generally avoid the Perry threads since he bombed so badly. It gets old pointing out how dumb he sounds and how much he embarrasses his three supporters.
Now that there is funny I don't care who you are...:oP
Well, even if he doesn’t pull ahead by the time the primaries start, he still stands a chance if the rest of the field remains split, with no clear victor. Due to the new proportional delegate system that is being used this year, rather then the older winner take all, we could very well see Perry win at the convention itself.

Bump!
Thank you for getting that information out.
Because he steps on establishment toes and he's a D.C. outsider. He doesn't OWE them anything and they don't expect to GET anything. His "make it a part time job" shakes up their gig. Imagine! Go HOME to their districts? Hell! What about my nice suburban Maryland home and the private schools for my kids -- the political contacts I'm building to fatten my rolodex for my "retirement" work?
I saw that. They were impressed that he couldn't be shaken nor would he make exceptions about states' rights. He was clear that the power should leave D.C. It was grand.
So why are you hanging around Perry threads?
It’s great that we now have both Grinrich and Perry swearing allegence to the constitution! I beleive Perry’s intention; Newt, not so much. But the Congress and the Parties won’t let that reform happen.
If there was a serious economic crash, both of them would give consideration to breaking up the Federal power structure and reducing spending rather than going with a North American Union, a global Fed, taxation and currency. That is what will be pushed by the media, Rinos and the Dems. I would trust Perry to stand up to that elitist pressure more than I would trust Newt. Perry knows the States would be able to make it.
The TRUST issue is important and what conservatives need to get about Newt vs Perry.
If you don’t have that, what do you have?
I say NOTHING.
You know where Perry stands on Life, 2nd Amendment, Constitution, national security and states rights. He’s just rock solid.
I haven't been on a Perry thread for a long, long time; not since he committed hara kiri in the debates and the entire conservative world (except a few groupies) found out he couldn't articulate why he was running (or anything else for that matter).
I actually came on to this thread because I noticed it was the another one of the (seemingly) hundreds of threads posted proclaiming a non existent Perry come back.
Sorry, it ain't happening........
I would suggest you continue to avoid the Perry threads.
It’s plain tacky to come on a thread with the sole purpose of trashing the candidate.
I’m proud to say I never did that on Cain threads.
Maybe you should figure out who you support and makes some points for him or her.
Demonstrations in Houston hosted in part by La Raza had Mexican nationals, illegal immigrants and traitor liberal guilty whites standing in the streets waving Mexican flags as traffic passed by.
Yelling slogans in Spanish, “This is our land” and “Viva La Raza”.
Placards with “Reconquista” or re-capture in English to those who fail to learn our language.
Not sure what your motives are, but La Raza is now and has been tied for years to the reconquista movement in this country.
Their “on the record” STATED goal is the conquest of the American Southwest and they will do this by illegal immigration, through the courts or by force.
Stop misleading folks....I mean La Raza.
You may truly be naive and believe what you posted or you may be a schill for the Mexicans, but to deny that many within La Raza have been working with radical elements is laughable.
Like I said, I haven't been on the Perry threads in quite a long time, since he has done the job himself of showing everyone how unqualified he is, and why he is such a bad candidate.
He's done his own campaign in without one bit of help from me. I like that.
I’m not the boss?
Well, dam.
Well, you and Cincinnatus Wife, et al will be happy to hear that Nancy Pelosi has a thousand pages of dirt on Newt - so he’s the next to fall.
We may well all be trumping up the old school spirit for Rick. I hope he doesn’t backslide on Amnesty (I DO, however, think in-state tuition IS amnesty).
You don’t have to get ICE/CPBE to take the ones you catch, but you sure as hell don’t have to entice the illegals to be here, either.
He may well end up the candidate. He’ll have to deal with the Ghost of W past on amnesty, DHS/TSA, ignoring the economy and never standing up to Democrats and everything else the MSM and Democrats blame on Texas’ Son.
