Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, appeared alongside her colleagues today to speak out against a new immigration law in Alabama that Democrats say allows for police to racially profile and needlessly deport illegal immigrants.
Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez led a delegation of 11 Democratic members of Congress to Alabama in late November to hear about the effect the new immigration law, HB56, has had on Latino families across the state.
The law, implemented in late June, requires that law enforcement officers request proof of citizenship status from those they detain if they have a “reasonable suspicion” that person may be in the U.S. illegally. A number of other provisions, including one that bars landlords from renting property to illegal immigrants, have caused an uproar from civil rights groups who call the bill unconstitutional.
In October, the Department of Justice filed a motion to block portions of the law from implementation, and a federal appeals court granted that stay temporarily to further assess the law’s Constitutionality. Gutierrez and 38 other House Democrats filed a legal brief in support of the DOJ lawsuit.
The day that brief was filed, Gutierrez and his delegation from Congress held their hearing in Alabama. He, Jackson Lee and three other members, including Texas Rep. Silvestre Reyes, spoke today about what they heard in Alabama.

No, Shelby, the civil rights violations occurred when the federal government refused to enforce federal immigration law, forcing bona fide citizens to suffer diluted voting rights so that Democrats could buy illegal votes with their tax dollars.

I'll accept yet another round of “amnesty” for illegal aliens, if all the legal citizens of the USA who desire a socialist/communist/Islamic/etc government, agree to formally renounce their USA citizenship, and immediately (and permanently) immigrate to any other nation they choose, that will accept them.
If no other nation will accept them, they can stay in the USA, but having voluntarily renounced citizenship, they would no longer be eligible to vote, own property or work in any field, including elective offices.
Nor would they be allowed to access any government support/subsidy/assistance programs.
Pick a date.
I hope she does not suggest they all move to Texas. We got enough problems with illegals already. I seen certain parts of Houston, that now look like 3rd slums with the same kind of crimes and attitudes to life that would make you think you are not in America anymore. It is a vastly different culture.
