Occupants experience "up to 400 g"

As you are likely aware, our own NHTSA test-crashes all new cars for sale in the US at speeds up to 40 mph- as do EU authorities and a few others.

One day the folks at English television show Fifth Gear (not to be confused with Jeremy Clarkson's unparelled Top Gear) wondered over tea
what would happen if they had some crash-test pros set up the cement barrier and run a Ford Focus into it at 120 mph... triple normal testing speeds.
So they did it... and this is what happens:

   - Car decelerates from 120-0 in .068 seconds
   - Occupants experience up to 400 g on impact
   - "-absolutely no survival space at all."

I have an idea... replace Ford Focus with Smart Car and lethal injection with 120 mph crash test.
 pay per view event?

    Just Awesome.
What is it about guys? We just like to see things being smashed to smithereens.
At high speed.
In flames.

    I agree, annoying ain’t he
You get the feeling he thinks cars are “icky” anyway, and drives a Miata or some other ‘hairdresser’s car’ (as they say in England)

I can’t believe a Ford Focus is capable of 120 mph under it’s own power.

Many years ago I was riding in a 55 Buick that side swiped a tree at about 110 mph. The impact ripped the car in half. The back half remained at the tree and fortunately the front half with me and the driver continued for a block and and a half down the road and we had very minor injuries. If it had not ripped in half I would not be here today. On a side note I decided not to ride with Charley any more.

Interesting. When I was a kid my father was in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. Each vehicle was going about 60. Both drivers survived, and my dad’s car was actually fixed. I remember seeing photos of its front end being mangled, but it was fixable. Says something about the quality of old-fashioned Detroit sheet metal, as opposed to today’s little plastic boxes.

Those old cars can go, but the brakes are another story
My buddy had a 57 Chevy he put a modern Rat motor in but with original drum brakes, took two miles to stop from that kind of speed!
He should have got an anchor and threw it in the back seat until needed actually lol

How fast can they get a Volt to go? That’s a crash I’d like to see. 120 mph Volt, into concrete barrier! Cool!

Interesting. Makes my respect and admiration for NASCAR’s safety innovations go up even more.
