Hillary Clinton's "3 a.m. phone call" ad could have been a devastating attack on Obama's competence and experience. It failed to have an impact on voters because it ran four years too soon.
Against the backdrop of a sleeping child, the ad's narrator says there's something going on in the world, and a phone is ringing in the White House. He asks, who do you want answering the phone? Someone who knows the military, world leaders, and is tested and ready to lead? Unfortunately for Clinton, almost no one was interested in competence or national security in the last presidential election. Voters chose someone they didn't know, who lacked any education or experience relevant to the presidency.

Sitting on a park bench with Nancy Pelosi is going to seem like a small infraction if Iran goes Nuclear and there's no one at the helm who understands what is going on.

If Newt Gingrich is the choice, Obama will be in the white house when Iran goes nuclear.
Its just the way it is.

Presidential power has to be more liberating than the hamstrung office of Speaker.
Newt is constantly criticized for his ‘compromises’ with the Democrats.
I would love to see him take on the Harry Reids & Nancy Pelosis - with the advantage of a veto.

Without question Newt has a depth of knowledge beyond the other candidates particularly on foreign affairs. However, if he were the GOP nominee expect the problems in his personal life to get the full smear campaign. We have already seen the way Herman Cain was smeared with trumped up allegations of sexual misconduct and Newt would get the same treatment. Sadly if you throw enough mud some of it sticks and the jackals in the press would have a field day ripping Newt personally.
By most standards Reagan was in experienced especially in foreign affairs, but he succeeded admirably as president because he had vision and leadership. Sadly I do not see any of the GOP candidates that have the leadership qualities of Reagan

He's done a lot more than simply sit on a park bench with Pelosi...

Also, haven't you ever noticed that in all of Bob Woodward's hatchet job books, Newt always shows up as an enthusiastic source?

Newt is a very good liar and conman. That is the crux of his “red card amnesty” program.
He knows he can’t sell amnesty in the open, so he has to do it covertly.

If Newt Gingrich is the choice, Obama will be in the white house when Iran goes nuclear. No question Newt is the most qualified but, as your post implies, it's better to have a winning conservative who is less qualified, albeit competent, than a losing conservative (yes, Newt is a conservative despite a few lapses)who is eminently qualified to be president.

Gingrich had an "A" rating from the gun rights organization, Gun Owners of America. After he became Speaker of the House, he sank like a lead balloon to a "D" rating due to his weak, mixed voting record on pro/anti gun legislation.

1989: Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-GA) co-sponsors the ambitious Global Warming Prevention Act (H.R. 1078), which finds that the Earths atmosphere is being changed at an unprecedented rate by pollutants resulting from human activities, inefficient and wasteful fossil fuel use, and the effects of rapid population growth in many regions, that global warming imperils human health and well-being and calls for policies to reduce world emissions of carbon dioxide by at least 20 percent from 1988 levels by 2000. The legislation recognizes that global warming is a major threat to political stability, international security, and economic prosperity. [H.R. 1078, 2/22/1989]
Was Al Gore even pushing the global warming scam back then?

Newt is a master con artist who has no beliefs he holds to. He is a weather vane who only cares about political power.

I don’t believe in collective salvation. I’m getting to the age when I have to consider what my maker will think of me voting for the lesser evil.

CC - I can appreciate that. I’m not a Gingrich supporter by far (I’ve been donating to Herman). However, I find Gingrich at least palatable when given the other two as alternatives. I’ll never vote for those two clowns.

"Grownups" keep their given word (e.g. "...forsaking all others..."). Overgrown adolescents don't.
Newt is an overgrown adolescent.

If the choice is between Gingrich and an otherwise kinda-sorta-acceptable candidate who can keep his pants on, I vote KSACWCKHPO.
If the choice is between Gingrich and an otherwise unacceptable candidate, I write in my own name.
