Cain steps into Letterman's lion's den and gets devoured
The American Thinker ^ | November 19, 2011 | Stu Tarlowe

On Friday night, Herman Cain was a fly and David Letterman was the spider cordially inviting Cain to "step into my parlor." Didn't Cain or any of his advisors see the potential for disaster in Cain appearing on Letterman's show?

Didn't anybody say, "Herman, don't go in there! It's a trap!"?

I desperately don't want to be seen as one of those just itching for clear proof that Herman Cain's candidacy is over. But it's hard to have watched Cain on Letterman and not come to the conclusion that neither Cain nor his advisors have sufficiently good judgment for him to be president.

I've been aware of Cain, and impressed by him, ever since I first heard him on the radio in Atlanta. I was ecstatic when he announced he was seeking the Republican nomination.

I have long maintained, long before anybody ever heard of Barack Obama, that a backlash of conservative Blacks might be the only thing that could save this country. The election of Barack Obama seemed to make that less likely, but I "kept hope alive".

And Herman Cain re-kindled that hope. I saw him as the man who could lead Black Americans off the Democrat plantation and, when that happened, many liberal whites would follow.

I was not deterred by the allegations of sexual harassment, nor by the "pause that depresses" when he was asked about Libya. I was not deterred by Cain's apparent lack of comprehensive foreign policy knowledge; I figured he would surround himself with competent advisors and that his own instincts and managerial and leadership skills, and his belief in America and its -- and his own -- general goodness would see him through.

But Cain's appearance on Letterman's show has seriously undermined my confidence in Cain's judgment and in his ability to.....

Cain has a lot higher ratings than Perry’s 5%...

Think Perry is campaigning for VP slot for now. Did you watch him in the Iowa debate?

It’s going to be either Cain or Newt.

If Mittens some how gets it, then expect to see a third party.

I’m more of the opinion Rick Perry, neutralized Rick Perry.

His supporters might better spend their time posting positive things about him (because he sort of needs it), than trying to tear down Herman Cain.

Was there an article like this one about his going into the ‘spider web’? And did you post it, if there was?

So it's okay to post articles critical of a candidate if the candidate's supporters post them?

I'm sure Romney will find that a relief.

I mean seriously, are people posting negative articles about their candidate here? Or about the other candidates?

I'm for objectively posting all articles, but no one does that here, come on.

This is hereby declared a candidate free discussion zone...

No whining please....

We must be able to discuss candidate's policy positions, character presence, and competency.

Thanks for your intellectual participation in selecting the next President of the United States.

Carry On!

I’m glad you brought up Perry’s “Ten Excuses” appearance on Letterman. I knew someone would and I’m surprised it took so long. But I think I know why.

When Rick Perry was getting out in front of the “oops” brain freeze on ALL the networks, ALL day long it was considered smart but then when he did the segment on Letterman, FReepers came on threads yelling “Unpresidental!” and “Letterman dissed Perry for not inviting him to sit down and visit!”

At the time I suggested Perry used Letterman - that his appearance was limited by his campaign to the “10 Excuses” and that there would be no interview with Letterman.

Smart.

I thought the best interview Dave did was with Paris Hilton, when she just got out of jail. She thought went on there to discuss her perfume line, but he had other plans.

I agree, Dave will be a bit harder on Republican candidates, because he’s part of the MSM, but not too hard. It’s good for Republicans to go on these shows, at the very least to be manhandled so they can become more confident and competent. What many Republican supporters miss is that we get the better candidates, because they have to go through a more difficult gauntlet to end up elected.

And I don’t mind that a bit.

“Gardisil” Rick Perry. That has to stop. Even us Cain fans recognize that’s BS.

I have seen Cain supporters post articles critical of him to answer the negativity with positive feedback, yes. The other side of the story, so to speak. Same with Palin. Same with Gingrich. Why not Perry?

I agree.

It’s simply a response in kind, to the same sort of tactics against Cain.

I actually like Perry, but when Cain’s being deliberately cast in a bad light, and that is clearly an attempt to do so to advance Rick Perry.

I’ll use the reverse tactic right back.

Against Gardasil Rick Perry.

Negative campaigning works both ways.

I do agree with you there.

I’m on record that Rick Perry wasn’t sufficiently prepared for running for president. Hopefully he can turn around and become viable again.

Iowa will be very interesting in how it shakes out.

That's all well and good, but it's only one part of what I asked and it's not even correct with that part. I see negative articles posted as examples of MSM bias, but I don't see serious critical pieces questioning one's own candidate. This piece isn't one of those expected MSM hit pieces, it's from a source that is frequently posted here, someone from 'our side' or at least the Republican side.

And my primary question was, "So it's okay to post articles critical of a candidate if the candidate's supporters post them?" and you didn't answer that.

But I didn’t bring it up to criticize Rick Parry for it. Quite the contrary. And I said that the same goes for Cain. Look your enemies in the eye and don’t flinch or look away. Stand your ground and don’t be intimidated. This is admirable on BOTH their parts. So why belittle either one?

If stating facts has now become belittling, God help the GOP.

First of all, who watches Letterman except (mostly) like-minded Leftist Moonbats, so whatever Cain said (and while I've not seen it all, the clip I saw was not a "Disaster" as Cain seemed comfortable, joking and flatly denied the allegations by the Bimbos) would not influence his audience.

The only negative that comes from this is how the Lame Stream Media AND RINO's, spin this, not too mention HERE with the Romney-Bots and Paul-inistas who love piling on.

Speaking of Paul and Romney, WHICH OF THE 2 DO YOU SUPPORT?

Come on now, fess up!!!
