Rep. Steny Hoyer (D., Md.), the second-ranking Democrat in the House, reacted angrily Tuesday to the suggestion by Texas Gov. Rick Perry that Congress become a part-time institution.
Is this a serious proposal hes making for a country that has very high unemployment, whos budget deficit is larger than its ever been in history, which has two wars that were confronting and trying to bring to a conclusion? Mr. Hoyer said of the Republican presidential hopeful.
If this is what he thinks is pandering to the Tea Party, it is not in my opinion speaking to the issues that the American public feels are very, very critical to them, jobs being the number one issue, Mr. Hoyer said. So I dont think its a very serious effort on his part.
In a speech Tuesday in Bettendorf, Iowa, Mr. Perry outlined his plan to overhaul the federal government.

His is the *only* job he is concerned about, make no mistake...

Hoyer, your party controlled both houses of Congress and the Oval Office for two years, and you didn’t come up with a budget — despite being in session that entire time.
You had all the time that the clock could give. Maybe if you actually had a deadline, you would do your job.

Looks like you have some competition! Ya can’t make this stuff up!
I think we care about OUR jobs, not Steny Hoyer’s job. It’s sad that Steny thinks that what congress does is helpful to keep our country working.
Anyway, congress already is a part-time job. Why not pay them accordingly? Many states get by with a part-time legislature, and under the framer’s plan, states have a lot more work to do than the federal government.
No coincidence at all. You can look it up. Most of the well run states have part-time legislatures. As an added bonus, the legislators have to spend part of their time working in the real world and living with the laws which they helped create.
Is that the sound of all the little piggies feeding at the tit of the American Taxpayers squealing.
Sounds like music to my ears.
Can you imagine people like Hoyer, Peeelousy, Bwanneee Fwank, Queen Sheila, and the like having to work in the real world??
The whole reason we are in this mess is due to 535 corruptocrats meeting on a daily basis to pass endless legislation. They should meet twice a year for 60 days in Washington and then the rest of the time they can use Go To Meeting or some such for their caucuses and committee work.
Think about that. There would be no reason to have a house in DC and you would actually still be a citizen of your state instead of it being a vacation spot from your home in Washington.
They are only working half the time as it is. 1/4 time works for me.
Gov. Perry is going to be on Hannity.
I like this idea, Perry has picked up some points with me.
Think about all the tax savings there would be if they had to pay their way with retirement and health care. Take all their “goodies” away too.
Yes! They wouldn't be so quick to stick us with things like ObamaCare (as they are exempt from it).
I was right on the button on part one of the sentence. We'll soon see if I'm still on that button regarding the second part.

I like this kind of thinking. Watch Congress start freaking out! The "small government" phonies are about to expose themselves to America. Perverts. ;-)
Interesting thought Leni.
I think if 0 bummer care is so good, take away their current health care and make them use 0 bummer care for at least five years. Then we'll talk about it for the citizens.
