Chu is part of the communist accademic cheaters zone. They are the “teachers, who grade themselves an A+ stimulus bill browny point. They are crace plagiarizers who are attracted to positions where they think they wont have to be judged in a fair manner. This is scientific pedophilia.

Here’s a protip for you: before you start blathering about vetoes, you should first check the legislative history to determine how much support a particular bill has in Congress.

Incandescents will continue to be made in South Carolina. People will be permitted to buy them in South Carolina so long as they use them in South Carolina. (You can insert the visual where I nod and wink really slowly after I say that ‘use in SC’ part)<

Sounds like a black market business opportunity.

Most socialists are insane, but it appears that the USA has more than it’s share of crazy bureaucrats as well as the current occupier of the White Hut.

The time for the masses to act has long passed us by, but the outrage of Americans over this further attack on our light bulbs, our guitar industry and window blinds should stir us into a blind fury that causes such a march on Washington that our rotten politicians and their millions of bureaucrats will fear for their skins!

I always see these empty government offices with energy efficient bulbs and motion sensor switches but the hater or AC is on and blasting. This is government waste hypocrisy.

Since I work for the government, I have always been told that we have to leave our computers on overnight so that the IT staff can push updates. And I have two computers (used for different purposes). I wonder how much energy that wastes?

If you like the cold light spectrum from LEDs.

The lack of heat is a double edged sword.

When commercial bldgs. are designed and heat load calculations are made, one of the items in the numbers is lighting.
Most office bldgs. have no interior/core heat source other than internal heat from lighting, electronics, etc.

While new structures could take lack of heat derived from lighting into consideration, conversion of older bldgs. could produce problems.
Plus, the heat will have to come from somewhere.
Heat strips are the usual method, used around the exterior zones.
Add them to the interior and nothing is gained in energy savings.
Just something to think about.

Then again, there would be a savings in the summer so it may wash.

The dollar store here sells them 4 for $1. I’ve purchased several hundred bulbs from 40 to 100 watts. I’ve got enough for 20 years.

Two incandescent bulbs that I have had since 1987--one which I use almost daily--are still going strong. I'd love to get a few more of those, but I have no idea who manufactured them.

It would be ironic, if it turns out later on, there will be a market for LED energy efficient bulbs, containing a tiny heating element to compensate for that.

I already heard about one unintended consequence - don’t recall the details sorry but a municpality switched their stoplights to LEDs; the stoplights began freezing and becoming obscured by snow.

The stoplights had been kept clear of snow it turned out, because the light bulb heat prevented the snow from accumulating on the stoplights.

ROTFLMAO! You're right. Looks like Dubya was a big supporter of the bill as was a good chunk of the GOP!

I just asked questions at my local hardware store about LED bulbs yesterday. The man said they have all but stopped ordering them because they were so bad. He did have a few bulbs and a large spotlight type bulb cost $70.

Must piss you off that some of us didn’t shill for that failure and have the temerity to call attention to how his legacy has and continues to do harm to us. Rather than whitewash history some of us don’t want to see it repeated or swept under the rug.

Agreed.

The only LED bulbs which are affordable right now, are not bright. 25 watt equivalents.

Pretty much useless as a primary source of lighting.

There are applications for 100 watt incandescents where a need exists for the heat they produce. People use them to keep animals warm and to provide just enough heat to keep the temp above freezing under a cabinet for example.

Actual heat lamp bulbs are way more expensive than are simple 100 watt bulbs, but hey, that’s too bad for anyone but a politician.

Making your comment about a presidential veto, well, childish and stupid.

For those of us old enough to remember Bush campaigned (a large part) on energy policy. As are most candidates today.

I'd remind you about law and sausages, but you wouldn't get it.

You’re showing the temper here. We beat Gore by a very few electoral votes and Kerry by about 1.5% as I recall. Clearly, you’d have preferred the alternatives, so that people would wake up. Well, you got your wish with Obama. Feel better about it?

I’m certainly no fan of the Obama administration, but count this among a substantial number of reasons why the United States of America couldn’t wait to get rid of the jack@ss who preceded him.

“Making your comment about a presidential veto, well, childish and stupid.”

Whereas yours is simplistic. If Dubya had fought against and threatened a veto towards said bill instead of actively campaigning for it and working to gin up support from the GOP side, it might not have passed and we’d have our good light bulbs.

So let’s review - many on this thread are complaining about the mandated new bulbs. It was pointed out how this nonsense came out during Bush’s administration. I’ve laid out visual proof, his speech and links documenting how your prince is the cause of this light bulb fiasco - and yet you bots still can’t hold him accountable. Sad really.

I just put an LED over the kitchen sink. Regular bulbs heated up to much, and CFL’s would burn out in weeks. Liking it so far!
