Newt Gingrich, who has stayed out of commenting directly on the sexual harassment allegations facing Herman Cain, urged the businessman to respond to the claims against him and to make sure he’s accurate and forthcoming with the truth because he “owes the American people.”
“I think when you move from anonymity to a person standing up in that setting and saying something, so now there’s a real – there’s a person. It’s not just some anonymous tip. Clearly Herman Cain has to answer the charges . He has to explain what happened. He has to do so in a way that’s convincing, and I think that that’s unavoidable,” Gingrich said in an ABC News/Yahoo interview today. “I think he both owes her that but he also owes the American people that and I hope he can do it well. He’s a good friend, and I hope he has an answer that satisfies people he has to have an answer and it better be accurate because if it’s not accurate it won’t stand.”
Gingrich has experienced a recent rise in the polls, placing fourth with 12 percent in an ABC News/Washington Post poll released last Friday. The former speaker of the House acknowledged Romney will make it to the final two in the race for the GOP nomination, but Gingrich said his eye isn’t on the Massachusetts governor but instead he’s focusing on snatching the undecided voters.

Newt does better when his brain engages before his mouth. I do respect him on policy - but not so much on personal.
Cancer wife was bogus. It was benign tumour wife, and she’s just fine 30 years later.
Scratch that one off the list and replace it with Scozzafava and you’ve got a good list.
If this woman is lying, why the hell does Cain “owe” her anything, Newt?
It was a crazy thing to say. Was starting to soften on Newt now I’m not so sure.
He should say simply that since an actual accuser has come forward, he believes Cain will address it, and until such time that Cain is shown, beyond a reasonable doubt, to be guilty of any of these taudy allegations, he will continue to support his friend because Cain is afforded under our law system to be innocent until proven guilty and nothing said or offered up at all to this date comes anything close to that.
That's how Newt and every other GOP candidate with any integrity and moral fiber should be responding IMHO.

Gingrich just validated the “Guilty until proven innocent” propaganda meme the Democrat/GOP Media machine is pushing.
Rather then demanding the media prove the accusations, he is demanding Cain disprove the accusation.
Newt threw Cain under the bus. Good old Newt, in the end he just could not help being a good little GOP Establishment Media whore.

I would not answer the charges. This situation is a he-said/she-said without any corroboration. She has accused him of bad behavior, not a crime or sexual harrassment. She has had her day in the spotlight. The incident will fade quickly. He should issue a general denial.

I do not think Newt is turning on Cain or throwing him under the bus. I also think anything he says publicly has been said privately. They really are good friends. Nothing but my opinion, not worth much on the market. :)
