Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance shared his thoughts recently touching on the organizations multi part mission:

“… to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense.”

Let me be timely here Tom. Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up quickly. Your “Gifts from Home” initiative is part of the Alliances’ work. Tell us about this gift program so people can spread the word to help out this year.

For the deployed troops, they love getting our Gifts From Home care packages. First, it lets them know that they are not forgotten and that their service is appreciated…For many Soldiers or Marines, they have been on 5 or 6 deployments – some of them even more…they’ve been away from their family for perhaps 3-5 years depending on the length of deployment. So to get some gifts, let’s them know that they are not forgotten.

What sort of items do you send?

…Items that the troops can’t get at a local drug store in the desert. Warms socks, sun glasses, sun screen, magazines, and movies – these things help them with the challenges of living in the desert and the entertainment items help to pass the time.

Do you have any anecdotes to share about how Soldiers and Marines reacted to the gifts?

This is an e-mail that we received in May from a soldier in Iraq who received a shipment of care packages from us.

Dear Freedom Alliance Team,

”Words cannot express just how exciting yesterday was when we opened all those packages. My eyes filled up with tears and my heart stopped a Moment.
