A couple weeks ago, TDMN reporter Wendy Hundley wrote a brief blog item on what initially sounded like one of many arguments-turned-fatal in Oak Cliff.
On Monday, victim Jesse Benavides' brother contacted us, asking us to look closer into the history of the accused killer, Santana Gaona.
He was right. There was much more to the story. Here's the top of our article in Saturday's paper (sub required).

This almost reads like at what point does it take to arrest an illegal, clearly rape isn't enough to detain him and now a person lay dead... catch and release..
His wife dropped charges?
I am unsure, here it says,Then, for unknown reasons, the rape charge collapsed and federal officials halted the deportation process. Gaona was set free.
Get a rope.
He was set free so that he could apply for that in-state tuition without consequence
This seems to me to be a clear case of law enforcement protecting an informer. The article all but makes that explicit. Whomever he was informing on will figure it out and likely put his lights out.
Perry let him go.
“rape, illegal alien, jailed, released, shot a man to death”
“It would be heartless not to recognize that we all have bad stretches. Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who ... “
The GOP, US Chamber of Commerce, Mutt Romney, Ricardo Perry, Wall Street Journal, et al.
Open them borders wide and this is what we get. I am sure La Raza Rick will say this guy only needed more benefits to be kept from crime.
The DMN put this on a paywalled blog but not in the paper, right?
maybe he pulled an Uncle Omar, I wish to make my one phone call to the white house ??
Saw it & was about to ping you after I replied to this other outrage.
