Perry's "Drunken" Speech Illustrates Clash of Cultures on You Tube
The Jazz Patriot ^ | Nov 3, 2011 | jazzpatriot

The commotion over the You Tube video, seen below, of Rick Perry’s speech in New Hampshire Friday night, which has gone viral on the internet, is an illustration of the type of cultural clash commonly found during Republican Primary campaigns during the present Red State vs Blue State era that divides the country in many ways. Here you had a born again, cheerful, passionate, sincere, spirit-filled Christian from Texas and an Internet audience of cynical bigoted, well educated mush-for-brains graduates of our finest universities, I suspect who are also probably liberal in political orientation. The later does not include the audience he was actually speaking to of just plain folks in the “Live Free or Die” state of New Hampshire. No...they loved him and in fact laughed along with him at his attempts at humorous innuendos, which I admit did appear somewhat goofy if you watched them on the short edited video of gestures and expressions instead of the full speech, with everything presented in context for emphasis as well as entertainment value. I mean...he seemed relaxed to me and having a good time, nothing more.

As someone who grew up in a blue collar Northeast Democrat family in the 1950’s before departing for college in the 1960’s, but became a born again Christian while serving as a US Navy Musician, I share the former Air Force Major's patriotic values as well as his Christian beliefs

Watching Perry’s cheerful, passionate style of speaking which reminded me of the preaching I have heard in Baptist or Holy Ghost Preaching churches both on TV and in person, my sense was that he was really "prayed up" and in the spirit, as they say down South. In fact he even mentioned at the outset of his presentation the characteristics of a "merry" man as mentioned in the Book of Proverbs, while referring to his Christian host in New Hampshire, which I might add could describe his own demeanor throughout his joyful presentation. And I'm talking about the type of genuine inner joy that is one of the "fruits of the spirit" discussed in the Bible, not the contrived type of merriment that is induced by alcohol or drugs throughout the secular culture.

While stationed in New Orleans in the early 80’s I attended a large 3000 member Southern Baptist Church in New Orleans LA for three years where most of the members were from the surrounding states of Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi. So I became quite familiar with the friendly, outgoing, big slap-on-the-back and come-into-my-house-for-a-glass-of-ice-tea Southern personality that Rick Perry displays very naturally so I wasn't taken aback by his speech in any way. In fact I found his style and approach refreshing and quite moving at times and very substantive as well on issues most conservative Christians, like myself, are concerned with such as the economy, "right to life", and freedom from the over-reaching and controlling government that currently exists in Washington.

On the other hand I am not surprised at the cynical reaction seen in the commentary section at the You Tube web site from people with a very secular world view who assumed he was drunk, high, and above all a “simple minded moron” of course, like all Conservative flag waving Americans are in their view

In fact most of the cynics who have been ripping Perry apart the last few days since his so called “drunken” performance are more than likely products of America’s godless educational systems oozing with bigotry at the Texan with the big grin and probably wouldn’t think of voting for a Republican…any Republican in the first place, especially one from the South, so take their comments with a grain of salt and treat him fairly, as his economic plan seems to be quite good, and worthy of further consideration if you ask me.

The voters of Texas are apparently satisfied with the leadership provided to their state from their popular Governor after re-electing him for a third term, which made him the longest serving governor in Texas state history. And the audience he spoke to Friday evening seemed satisfied as well. They gave him a standing ovation, did they not?

So what's your problem "You Tubers"? Lighten up will ya!

Let drop this slander right now. Watch the whole speech. It was a very good speech. the selctive editing was a childish cheap shoot by someone.

I do not support Perry but these personal attack politics have to end.

Good morning MNJohnnie, isn’t it a beautiful day?

I agree, we’ve got to stop the circular firing squad. Best wishes to you.

I like Perry, but have concerns about his ability to communicate. Prefer Cain.

BUT, I would question describing Perry as “Spirit-filled” based on how he tore into Romney (NOT a Romney fan) in one of the last debates.

Both he and Michelle Bachman have taken attack modes on their Christian brethren that is out-of-character for a Christian. I’ve been saddened to see both do this. They only demeaned themselves.

Cain and Newt, on the other hand, have not used such tactics, but stayed above it - as they all should.

You're exactly right.

This is the first I am seeing of the now famous video.

Actually, it just looks like a guy whose style is not usually demonstrative or spontaneous but who has been coached to show some ‘spontaneity’.

Of course this is a political campaign and Perry would be advised to just stay with the delivery he knows.

Again, you are right.... the Liberal manipulation of the speech is truly base and childish.

It’s EMBARRASSING to have a candidate who can’t keep off the bottle, even when he knows he’s about to make a speech.

The attack on Romney wasn't even particularly noteworthy. If he'd asked me to prepare something for him I'd done it gladly and it'd worked much better.

First, you must understand the issues surrounding hiring people who you've discovered hiring illegals ~ that's where the problem begins. For some of us that employer is a "SLAVER" and worthy of little more than a swift death penalty. For others I can only suppose he is a great contractor who gives them the lowest price.

Anyway, right there is the problem ~ the cause of the problem ~ and the continuation of an older problem which has in the course of time actually led to civil war.

I can only suppose Texas schools don't teach the same Civil War courses that are taught in, for example, Indiana. Else, Rick would have had a visceral reaction that would easily have carried him through his 30 second time limit and thoroughly crushed Romney ~ as a man who traffics in slavery!

Thank you! I don't know why Christians suddenly think this stuff is OK just because it's taking place in the context of an election campaign!

First of all, Perry had the entire nomination in his hands. I truly believe that before the first debate he would have won and I believe that 100 percent. However due to his own personal politics he completely fell apart. He is fully responsible for his downfall and nobody else. I would love to take credit for keeping this guy out of the White House but I had ZERO to do with it.

I agree that his attack on Romney was not a wise move and it hurt him as well. Politics is a tough field for Christians and I’m sure you agree that simply being filled with the spirit one day doesn’t mean you won’t do or say something sinful the next. And the same applies to Bachman

I saw the excerpted piece on Fox a few times. In none of my viewings did it bother me at all. I thought he was simply being light-hearted and humorous. And I agree, the crowd was with him on this and they laughed along.

It’s sad to me that that light moment is being force-fed as somehow odd. He said nothing out of line, he did nothing out of line, and I’m convinced he meant nothing out of line.

It took a concerted effort on the part of the media, on the other hand, to force this to be interpreted as inappropriate.

Cain and Newt, on the other hand, have not used such tactics, but stayed above it - as they all should.

Trying to be nice here today - but what you just posted is not consistent with the truth. Yesterday, Mr. Cain launched an attack on Gov. Perry - accusing his camp of being behind the leaks about allegations in his past. Gov. Perry has denied any role in this & that of his camp.

It is now up to Mr. Cain to prove his slanderous charges against Gov. Perry. Perry has only had nice things to say about Cain - but the opposite is not true. You can't twist the truth around to suit your purpose.

My bad. You are absolutely correct, and I simply had forgotten he just stooped down to the same level.....

I was sorely disappointed when I saw this, and yet simply forgot it as I was thinking only in terms of the debates......

Thank you for pointing this out.....kudos Alice!

I actually liked that Rick Perry in New Hampshire. He seemed much more awake than in the debates.

I appreciate your comments. I do think our candidates are getting bogged down in these circular attacks - Obama is the target. Even here on FR, I’ve been seeing too much of it & it is disheartening.

AGREED!!! We're all getting wrapped up in the emotion of the campaigns and forgetting who the REAL target of our enmity should be...obama!

I pledge to whole heartedly support any candidate who wins the GOP nomination (with the exception of Mitt Romney....he'll get my vote but not my heart). Obama must go!

Again, you are spot-on correct. Quit slamming one another and aim for the real target.

Some one once said, “The Main Thing is to keep The Main Thing The Main Thing!”

And by focusing on one another instead of The Imposter, they are each hurting themselves most.

The Main Thing is to depose the illegitimate One.....legally of course........
