Perry on talking to the family about the decision to run:
..There's a young man, a Navy SEAL that Anita and I took care of for about two-and-a-half years. He basically adopted us. His name is Marcus Luttrell [co-author of the book Lone Survivor]. He was in the family meeting too. It was Anita, myself, Griffin, his wife Meredith, Sydney, Marcus, and his wife. Seven of us sat down, and we had a conversation.

Simply put, no way in hell.
That’s the real boss behind the podium, holding up her hand.
Give it a break! Your spamming of freerepublic is getting very obnoxious. The guy is a stammering dunce in the debates and was dumb enough to tell 75% of the country they had no heart. Obama, as weak as he is, would shred Perry in a debate. We need someone who can articulate the conservative message. Perry has proven he is not that person.
Yes, the electorate are chomping at the bit to elect yet another neo-con from Texas, not a whole lot different from Bush 43.
Perry will go down in flames against Zer0.
He hasn’t a chance. .
Other than you and the other 5% of Republican voters, he will be drubbed and crushed by zer0.
i prefer perry’s flat tax to cain’s 999.
but these guys at RED STATE are so in the tank for perry, it’s a little bit vomit-inducing.
Interesting to see Rick Perry reaching out to others as Rick Perry now stands with Sheila Jackson Lee in her opposition of Confederate licensee plates in Texas.
I wouldn’t say that he is the “likely” nominee, but I still think he has a good chance, for some of the reasons mentioned in the article.
He HAS to finish strong in Iowa. Top 2. Otherwise, he’s toast. South Carolina will start looking at the Iowa winner.
I predict a surprise winner in Iowa. Not sure who. Santorum, Newt, or Bachmann maybe. Iowa can be weird like that.
Romney will win NH. Perry will then HAVE to win South Carolina.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Perry = great candidate on paper. So far, that’s about it.
Even in interviews Perry is not fast on his feet and does not demonstrate an ability to intellectually explain WHY conservative governance works. He is mostly right on the issues, but his communications skills are seriously lacking.
I am still giving him a chance. His flat tax plan is vastly better than 999, and I at least have confidence Perry knows how to win elections as he has demonstrated many times in the past. He really just needs to loosen up, relax a little in front of the camera and brush up on his debate skills.
I do agree, polls mean nothing right now.
What they don't know is many people read threads without posting. Many undecided Freepers so when they see your pictures and contrast them with the ugliness of the Cainiacs, it only helps.
I will be driving to Iowa as a volunteer for Perry in January, very excited to campaign for the next President of the United States.
I didn’t know Harold Camping was right. He just got it on the wrong days. Perry is the messiah and Red State is the new bible.
Barleycorn thinks Newt is off-putting to women and independents, but Perry isn’t?
Also, IMO Newt’s two exes is no more challenging than Reagan’s one was 32 years ago.
Sure, he’s a flawed candidate, like all of them, but he’s far the more impressive candidate than Goodhair is.
Rick Perry could double his support in each (of the two) month(s) until the first votes are cast and not reach first place in most polls. He certainly is not touching many chords with primary voters he continues to offend both in and outside of debates. He needs to stop the downward trend he continues to have in polls before many will even consider him again. A few apologies would not hurt either.
Found it on a couple of places on the net.
They regard his relationship and support of Marcus Luttrell...
Don't know who or what Marcus Luttrell is? How about if I mention the book "Lone Survivor"? Or that he was featured at Glenn Beck's rally in Washington?
Here's a link for a refresher: Badass of the Week
So the anecdote goes like this:
"Here is another Rick Perry story:
Remember Marcus Luttrell from Lone Survivor fame? Well, Marcus was having a really tough time after he returned from Afghanistan. A trauma like that would make anyone a little off center.
So Rick and Anita took Marcus in. They gave him things to do and made sure he got to San Antonio for all his medical visits. Rick, having also been in the military, had long talks to the wee hours with Marcus about the aftershock of Marcus losing all his team members.
After Marcus moved back home, some thug teenagers killed his dog, the rehabilitation dog Marcus was given at Walter Reed. What happened then can be found on the internet. (See above link).
What is not reported is that Marcus called Rick on his cell phone and told Rick that punks had killed his dog. Rick sent the Texas Rangers to intercept the thugs. They are now in jail.
When Rick Perry tells you hes a friend and will always be there for you, he means it. It is not just empty words he says before he throws you under the bus.
Now, Rick and Anita have taken in even more Navy Seals who have had tramatic experiences, trying to help them like they did Marcus.
You ever read about that in any newspaper? No, and you wont. Like I said, the measure of a man is what he does when nobody is watching.
I know this much. Rick Perry is a good man. Yeah, hes made a few mistakes, but so has every other candidate who is running.
But it is time that we have a really good person in the Oval Office, so if Rick decides to run, he not only has my vote, I will work my tail off for him."
Maybe there's some folks on FreeRepublic that know Mr. Luttrell personally and can get confirmation/denial of this story.
But...dudes and dudettes...if this story's true...or even partly true...it speaks mighty well and says admirable things of Mr. Perry.
Slam him if you must, because of your support for someone else, but he's still a mensch.
And boy, do we need that! I think there's lots of folks who find Governor Perry abrasive and hard to take. What I'm hoping is they'll realize that sometimes straight talk is hard to take.
And that what America needs now is a tough, straight-talking, military-loving, 2nd Amendment supporting...man.
Out.
Great post, CW! The vociferous yowling going on among the Neanderthalians cheers me! It is a given that something is up, and that Perry is coming. Why else all the heavy breathing? The Cainiacs have always preferred wordsmiths to substance and will settle for oratory, a clever mouth and no experience, because they were seen doing that once before. (clears throat.) Experience, and a ten year record will never rank high with visual types, if there is something flashy and unique to attract their eye. Like toddlers following the bouncing ball. LOL! Making celebrities out of personalities is a full time job, after all! The White House so wants to run against Romney, and it is convenient that Cain has held Romney off with his debate prowess. Now through the crease comes Rick Perry 2.0 with ALL the goods—the real RECORD, and GROUND EXPERIENCE to offer voters what they want and need on JOBS, ENERGY, TAXES, EDUCATION, BORDER SECURITY, and ten years of success governing a near nation-state, bordering Mexico. Rick has it, and the rest of the field would love to get it. He doesn’t have to rely on the lip service offered , by every other candidate, with only varying success I might add. I love substance, myself. Those who don’t get it, lose it. There are but a noisy few left who are nervous. They should be.
I just wonder if you’re actually trying to help Perry win. If you are, you are going about it the wrong way. You’re turning more people off than you are attracting them.
While anything can happen in politics, Perry had his moment, and when the spotlight was on him, he didn’t just fumble, he handed the ball away in his own end zone to the other team.
He got the Anyone But Romney crowd for a moment, then they watch him fall on his face, and have now moved onto Cain, where they will likely watch him fall on his face as well... and so it will go until the last person standing besides Mitt will get their votes, and like our Romper Room President did by being the last mand standing for the “anyone but hillary” crowd 4 years go, that person will likely be the nominee.
As I see it now, that’s most likely going to be Gingrich.. I just don’t see Perry making a comeback, the electorate gave him a chance, and after seeing the whole cow, opted not to buy the heiffer.
