Pure redistribution, entitlement (how the heck are you entitled to private businesses money??) greed! First,I don't drink Jack, but I have been to the distillery, and there couldn't be a better example of an American business. It is not a super sleek corporate monster( not that I disapprove of those), but a very successful company that happens to have set up shop in a small town, providing jobs and revenue to the community. What a kick in the teeth to demand more. This story really ticked me off!

So a few citizens are angry tourists come to their little town and they want to slap a tax on Jack Daniels? They said themselves its the biggest employer in the county and a major part of the tax base....so how is hurting this company going to help anyone??

Is this about anything more than one “concerned citizen,” or is there a real effort to add a local tax? If it is the latter, I am sure there are many ways the company can send a message that they have already been taxed enough.

I saw this story on Fox yesterday and it ticked me off too...and I don’t drink at all. Jack Daniels is an American icon. They propose to tax JD $10 per barrel because “they can afford it”. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
There is no Lynchburg without JD. The reason they are there is the water they use in their whiskey and the only other place this water can be found is in Denmark.
Imagine Gibson Guitars from Morocco and Jack Daniels from Denmark. It is mind boggling.

I've had a Jack or 2 in my life & I can honestly say I didn't know where it was made & didn't give a hoot. By the time I got around to reading the label, I couldn't.

You can make good whiskey in Mexico or China, too, & much cheaper.

Old Mr. Rogers needs to be aware that some people (mostly young) believe that old people are a burden & inconvenience to society despite their many contributions, & should be taxed according to their age - the older you are the higher the tax. Besides, all that extra money could go to schools, police, & roads. Don't you agree, Mr. Rogers?

It is immoral to mix Jack Daniels with anything except a little ice.

The answer is simple, first pretend you have the intestinal fortitude of Howard Hughes::

Dear Mr Rogers,

Thank you expressing your concern with regards to your thoughts that we at JD could more than afford to pay more taxes to fund the much needed infrastructure projects you outlined. I regret to inform you that we have decided to just CLOSE instead, All assets will be sold off and profits distributed to our faithful employees as a severance package. Don’t worry we have more than enough assets to allow all of our former employees and executives to RETIRE comfortably. As for the city on Lynchburg, well I am sure your punitive Tax Plan will entice some unsuspecting business to open up in our place. Doors Closed. end of story.

I’m just blown away that the General Manager for Jack Daniels is a guy named Tommy BEAM.
Strange.

I can see that this “Mr Rogers” has a different view of being a neighbor. Does anybody think that this ‘gentleman’ is a conservative? Me neither!

This is a case of “Don’t tax me, tax that rich guy / company because they are successful!” I remember when Don Hewitt (creator of “60 Minutes”) [1995 letter to Forbes Magazine] wanted to confiscate all individual wealth over $1 Billion to the Federal Government. Left unsaid by Mr Hewitt was what would happen to people like Bill Gates who would have lost control of Microsoft to the government since all of his then wealth was in ownership of his company.

Liberals are infinitely resourceful in spending other peoples money and there are always ‘needs’ that require more and more. In terms of getting that money they appear to have no idea beyond taxation.

“We are entitled to more money from the only industry in the county – Jack Daniel’s distillery,” said Charles Rogers, a 75-year-old retiree and self-described “concerned citizen” of Moore County – home to Lynchburg and Jack Daniel’s.

There's a word that describes you to a 't', Mr. Rogers. Communist.

Tennessee has been a target of the progressives for some time...it appears they are making inroads.

Perhaps the residents so bent on adding additional taxes on Jack Daniels should read the old story The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs.

Interesting factoid...

Whenever and where ever you buy a bottle of any Jack Daniles product, on average, about 60% of the purchase price goes for various taxes...think about it...
